any good?

well for £190 delivered on ebay you get 3 more powerful heads, 2 softboxes, 2 brollies, radio trigger etc........nah the jacobs one isnt as good IMHO

absolutely, fewer less powerful units at a higher price just must logically be better value:shrug:

These are similar units to the ebay ones I have but at a higher price......... and do come along, the three head set up I have costs less than a single sb600, jeez just what do people expect????

FITP, your posts are normally quite logical, but we'll just disagree on this one. three more powerfull units + more accessories = better value. IF the Jacobs units WERE better quality (which I'll bet they are not) you just might have a point, but at this price point you will get cheap and cheerful.

I have demonstrated what the cheapo ones I have can do with minimal knowledge/effort, the Jacobs ones are an unknown quantity unless YOU have
experience of them (which I assume you must to be making these comments!!)

If you havnt used these units please for the benefit of the OP clarify how you know they are better than the ones I do have experience of............

Appologies to the OP for going off topic, my advice stands, buy the ebay ones, they are good value for the £190..................

i am tempted byut thought id ask for opinions will u be posting more sample pics from ** ones off ebay?

well yes, IF i can get someone to pose!! my youngest is fine as demonstrated, but my wife and eldest daughter are reluctant. I do need some time to try the umbrellas and barn doors etc, and I am planning this. I spent only 10 minutes setting up the lights, so with more time much better results will be possible. Please remember we really are talking bargain basement at this price level yet despite that I am convinced great results can be achieved.

Dont know a willing model who lives near East Sussex anyone?

(Hope to put some more up mid week.......)

so build quality/source etc doesn't come into it? Cheaper is always better?

Where have you done that? All you have said is that you have a similar set up, what does that prove?

Please reread my posts, nowhere do I state that the Jacobs ones are better than the ones that are similar to the ones you own, what I said was just because you get more for less money it doesn't necessarily make something better value.

the OP is aware of this thread as they have posted within it. The pictures I posted were far from brilliant, but given they only took 10 minutes set up at least they indicate better results are possible. For home use, top notch isnt needed and if you read the post you will see that I am taking these units as a learning exercise to be replace with decent stuff later IF i get enough use out of them...............................................

I will post some more pics to help the OP ASAP, I am keen to get more experience of studio flash....

Oh please can I pinch your anti football avatar, I too hate football!!!

thanks dave.

The simplae fact is im disabled and dont get/have alot of funds to spend on something thats not going to be used alot. I saw the one you have and the results and im quite impressed considering they were cheap

Louise,

As with all things you do get what you pay for. With the set up I have you can get good results, and the cost is modest. I felt happy investing £190, BUT £500 for a supposedly better set was just too much.

Too many on here criticise these cheaper outfits yet without actual experience of them, which I find quite hard to comprehend. The outfit does have limitations but accept this and you will be well pleased I am sure.

I will do my best to get some more examples posted, suspect my youngest will want to take some more of me which may be the price you will have to pay for seeing what the lights can do:lol:
