Any flash triggers that allow for High Speed Sync.

I'm in the market for flash triggers; but need them to support High Speed Sync.. Anyone know of any brands / models out there that are reliable and provide this feature?

Thanks for any pointers.

that's why I wont sell my D70! cracking camera if you want to overpoer the sun a la strobist style

And to think I had two of them, before I decided to upgrade!
 
D70(s) or D40, or medium format with leaf shutters in the lenses.

Or much more powerful lights, and ND filters if you want to reclaim low dof.

Or a long TTL cable.

Or pocket wizards. Only options atm iirc :(

Long TTL cable seems like the more practical solution; but would much prefer wireless :).

Any news on when PW are releasing their new range of triggers for Nikon?

Can I ask what advatage the D40/70 have over higher spec cameras when in the menus you can turn on FP?

On my D90 I use a SB600 off camera and can go up to 1/4000 to overpower ambient light, am I missing an obvious difference?

Anyway, found Pixel Knight, amazing what one letter can do, and they seem just about what I am looking for. The only thing, these only work with Canon :shrug:. Apparently, the Nikon version had issues and have yet to be resolved.

So very tempted by a Mamiya with 1/1600s sync, but can't justify it...yet :)

I've used the ND filter & big lights combo and it works great, once you get focussing sorted as shooting through several stops of ND can make the AF work that bit harder.

D40/70(s) have electronic shutters, so no curtain to intrude on the image.

Canon & Nikon High Speed Sync systems are basically pulsing the flash rapidly at a lower power to compensate for the high shutter speed, at the dtriment of flash power and battery life.

The other advantage to cameras like the D70s is that it consumes a heck of a lot less battery power than HSS functions, you're not restricted to manufacturer specific flash systems, so I can use it with studio gear, or the higher powered portables eg quadra / safari etc and it's as cheap to buy a D70s or D40 as it is to buy an SB900 these days, and it means you've got a second body, just in case...

I've also come across RadioPoppers in my search for HSS triggers.

Has anyone here tried them? I've done a search here, in TP, didn't find much about them :shrug:

Thanks Kris; had a look at Pixel King a few day ago, what makes these any different from the "Pixel TR-331 Wireless Flash Trigger Set" that Simon linked to?
 
Read ELV000's post in the thread I linked to, he seems to have a contact with Pixel.

There are various improvements.

But, mainly, they are the updated version. Any problems discovered in the original Knights will have been improved upon, hopefully.

We have a problem with Radio Poppers here in the UK Wail because the frequency they use is not licenced. That is however due to change very shortly.

I know a lot of folks in the US use them but up till now they are not legal to use here in the UK so you might find responses here limited.
 
Thanks Ali, didn't know that about RP. Somehow I thought they were on 2.4GHz, same as WiFi etc.

I have to say, they are rather expensive compared to the Pixel King triggers; a lot more expensive I ought to add. I think I'll go with the Pixel King for the time being. I was hoping the Pocket Wizard would have their new triggers, for Nikon, our by now as they do seem like the industry leaders.

There is an EU CE approved version available, but only the PX model (like what I said up there....)
