Does anybody out there have any experience of one-shot panoramic lenses? These are things that allow you to take a 360-degree panorama with one shot, so no stitching is required. Like this one here, though there may be others.

I'm interested in experience-based views relating to:
- quality
- ease of use
- durability
- whether dedicated software is required

Thanks in advance.

I believe in the 70's there was a camera which could take 360 degree pics.

If I remember correctly it was a motorized camera on a special mount where a small slit (or a focal plane shutter type) moved across the film in synch with the movement of the camera; or the film moved across while the slit remained monionless; can't remember which.

Rather like those old school pics where the camera panned across the large group of schoolkids.

Shameless bump.

Anybody used one of these things?

Yep, I used a 0-360 and also a Kaidan, They're OK if used for a small viewer, but anything more than around 400x400pixels and they're useless.

The cognoscenti are very sniffy about these lenses.

The users of :
http://www.panoguide.com/ which is my bible for all thing pano. are very dismissive of such flibbertigibbets and would prefer you work for your art.

Never used one myself, but understand they are pretty crap, but as has already been said if you only want teeny-tiny pics you would be Ok.
