Just bought some outdoor floodlights from B&Q - simple halogen jobs with no PIR. Looking at the connecting wires in the lamp - one is obviously Earth (green/yellow) but the other two are not colour coded as such. They are foreign btw. Both the remaining wires are white with a splash of red - more red on one than the other. Not sure if it matters which way around these go for lamps but grateful for advice.

hanks,

Usually the terminals are marked on the plastics below the terminal block you connect into e.g. L, N, E.

Thanks. Even I would have understood how to connect those ;) These have three wires coming out of the guts of the lamp and connected to a 'chocolate box' connector. Pretty bad really and surprised that they can be sold like this in UK. They were a clearance deal - no wonder! Might take them back

If it is a straight bulb with a filament it does not matter which way they are joined as long as your earth wire is correct.
If you think about it the bulb operates no matter which way you put it into the holder.
I agree it would be better if it was coded in some way.

Pretty standard for this sort of unit.
