Hi
I am thinking of swapping from sony over to nikon, probably the D600.

I will have around £700 to spend on lenses when I do this, what would you recommend?

I would need a decent standard zoom and a prime for portraits, I don't mind buying second hand or other makes other than nikon if it means I can get more for my money.
Many thanks
Neill

Have a read of the D600 thread on here. In particular the problems with oil and dust on the sensor. That model has been superseded by the D610 that appears to have addressed these problems.
Good prime for portraits (at a reasonable price) is the 85mm f1.8 G Nikkor. Very sharp lens (as is the f1.4, but that is much more expensive)

Personally I'd avoid the D600, I had two both of which suffered from the oil issue Dougie mentioned, D610 appears to have fixed it and the price has dropped a lot since it was released a few months back.
Personally I've opted for a D800 as a replacement for my faulty D600, wasn't willing to pay extra for what is essentially a "fixed D600" in the form of the D610.

What Sony kit do you have?

Was the D600 really that bad? I have read about it but wasn't sure how much of an issue this would be especially if I bought with warranty. There is about £350 difference between the 2 models so was going to sane myself some money.

I currently shoot with a A77 mainly with the 16-50 lens or primes, I have a few lenses that I don't use enough so was going to sell this lot and move over to Nikon. The A99 is just a tad too expensive for me.

I certainly found it to be that bad, I'm sure you'll find both folk who've been affected and not in equal measure, I refused to go without my second D600 for 3 weeks to have it "fixed" (theres been plenty of folk who've waited the 2-4 weeks for repair only to find it not fixed)

Done a couple of sensor cleans on mine and the occasional blow out with the rocket. Sensor cleaning is not that difficult:thinking: I would happily consider a D600 especially at the price at the moment. Lenses I have the 24-120 f4 which is a cracking lens and can be picked up around the £600 mark second hand. Nifty fifty can be found cheap enough, especially the D model.

Thanks for all the advice, in the end I got a great deal on a A99 which means I only have to swap a few non FF lenses over.
