Just wondering if they were any rock climbers around here? And if so can they recommend a good UK climbing forum? Maybe a few good bolted pitches in the east midlands?

Something I did in my youth.

I am not a member, but I visit the forum most days. Seems a good bunch.

Not sure about outdaoors but my mate uses an indoor climbing wall in Loughborough. I can find out where it is if you want.

+1 always used to be a good forum, havent been on it in a quite a while now though.

As for bolted routes I'm not too sure, always used to head into the Peaks and for either Trad routes or just boulder around a bit.

Climbing wall in Nottinghams always good if its a rubbish day outside too!

If you wouldn't mind Kev. The reason I ask for east mids is my folks live up there and I spend a lot of my block leave with them. They now live in Coalville, so Loughborough is dead easy (they moved from there last year). I'd imagine the wall would be in the Uni somewhere, which is a shame. Loughborough Uni seems to have a 'it's ours and you're not using it' mentality. They always seemed like that at least :(

Big thanks to all who made suggestions. Will check out that forum at some point. Looking forward to better weather to get down Portland!

I'll ask him and get back to you. I'm just up the road from coalville so if you fancy going out for a shoot next time you're on leave and fancy a good old bitch about the armed forces just give me a shout:thumbs:

Will do Kev :) You're in Ashby aren't you?

The 'wall' at loughborough uni is more an overgrown cupboard rather than a wall, owned by LSMC. Not aware of anywhere else in lufbra.

Alter rock in Derby, Nottingham Climbing centre or The Edge in Sheffield are probably your lot really.

Not aware of any bolted routes around here :( Find someone who's got a rack and head up stanage though...

and UKC *is* the climbing forum...

Is 'The Edge' part of a chain of walls? It's just the walls in Wimborne QE leisure centre are also known and marketed as 'The Edge'.

Shame about Loughborough...but not surprising. I'd have thought that Loughborough Leisure Centre would have had at least 1 wall put in in it's mahousive refit a few years ago.

If you're *really* desperate, there's a nice rock in outwoods near loughborough with a bigass tree up the top that you can toprope nicely from. Most of the routes themselves are more of a ladder than a climb though, but fun for non-climber friends etc, just need a couple of slings to go round the tree...

I'm a climber but I'm based in Newcastle at uni and Bradford at home. Been on and off for a few years, but hoping to push to E2 again by summer.

Have you asked your resident Gym Queen - the proper one that is, not the RPTI's?

They're usually fairly switched on when it comes to planning Adv Trg and might well know a few routes.

+1 for ukclimbing.com

I'm a climber, but based in Peterborough (it's frustraing being right on the edge of the fens) for me it's a 90-120 minute drive to Derbshire for any climbing I want to do :-(

Why bolted? *shudder*

The OP seems to hale from Dorset, which account for the desire to climb on paper clips.
