You may have got a few more comments in the Websites etc forum.

(FWIW I'm at work on XP, IE7, identified as IE6 with Flash 8)

The first things that jumped out at me were the broken images, references on your nav bar which returned on a mouseover and the link to your facebook group.

The header is nice, however as it doesn't fill the full width of my monitor it would be good if the navigation menu was aligned to it.

Style wise I'm not really sure that you need all the horizontal lines in the footer and I'm not a fan of the "Latest" page, my advice would be to hide the table borders and if you are 100% sure you want to keep the buttons, at least have them aligned. The portfolio page is better in this respect.
 
That's far too wide for most peoples laptops... who are your target audience...
I would stick with a fixed width and have it centralised.
On your portfolio page, the borders look a bit... dated? Standard?

Your landscape images are nice, didnt look any further.. at work. But was is annoying is having to scroll down when you click on an image.

Hi I quite like the site although the one thing for me was when looking at the images you had to click, scroll down, scroll back up, click the next and scroll down and repeat and when you add more images this will become quite a chore! Other than that I think its quite accessable! :)
 
For me it's looking a bit dated - the fonts used etc.
Also - what is your website for? If it's for getting bookings, guide people through that process, it's not screaming 'book with me now'

Looks like a throw back to the 1990's to me and very home made looking.

If you dont have the cash for a professionally designed site I would start with a template of some sorts, there's plenty of them out there, my fist photography site was a modified dreamweaver template intended for a coffee shop.
 
Have to concur with all of the above.

I had to scroll right to see the full page and I'm running at 1280x1024. You need to bring that down to fit in 1024x768 at least in my opinion.

Some of the font sizes are way too large. Plus, font sizes are different on some pages than others. Looks like you're using Bold fonts too, I'd take that out, and use a more neutral font like Tahoma/Verdana or something to that effect

Love the picture you used on top by the way, but it could easily be scaled down a bit or cropped in to fit a smaller page

The references page is badly formatted. I'd have a contant colour throughout and just let bold or a single line sererate each reference. Something simple.

And I'll be harsh (because you told me to :lol:)... I won't lie, there's a lot of little things that need to be fixed first before I could really delve into the nitty gritty. Even after fixing all that I'd probably start rethinking the layout, like the left menu doesn't kinda fit for some reason. Can't put my finger on it...

anyway that should get you started!
 
Hi For building it yourself i take my hat off,
Your home page took me a while to realise what was bugging me and its the orange frame around the images, header looks good, I'd change the font on your strap line and move it below the images also reduce it in size.
The nav buttons would look ok without the grey box around them.
I'd be temped to lose the latest page but have a page for private cliets, and again that frameing is letting you down.
The ref page I'd lose the grey fill colour and change the font colour to white on a black BG.

But its a lot better than I could do so congrats
 
Agree with the comments on here that it looks quite dated.

Also there is not a lot of text on the home page that search engines can process. so don't expect miracles with Google, et al.

After your title tag, they get:
  • un-named/untitled header image
  • some links to internal pages
  • two more un-named/untitled images
  • the same internal links again
  • a copyright statement

In fact "Photography" only appears once on the page of content as plain text and that is right at the bottom of the page in the copy right statement.
 
Dreamweaver isn't the solution to all website issues, it's overly complicated and doesn't produce the best code (but I can understand wanting to use it if you've forked out £400 to buy it).

Having everything planned down exactly what you want, then go ahead and make it with whatever tool you choose to use, Namo/Notepad/Dreamweaver etc
 
ill be honest.. ive not read anyone elses comments but i personally think it looks very outdated..

its like looking at someone wearing addidas popper pants.. very 10 years ago..

i think you need to keep away from using images for menu links and look at using CSS.

If you dont get Dreamweaver, stay away from it.
Why not check out WIX.com or even search around for templates there are thousands of free one available, just tweak them to your own needs ;)
 
I would have a phone number on every page, I would also lose the 0845 number.

I think you are also these days supposed to have more than just a phone number, but I may be wrong.
 
Phone number on every page sounds a bit excessive, never seen that before. As for address it's about 50/50 for the tog sites I've seen. I'm not fussed on the 0845 numbers because I get charged extra to dial them, that's why I have the mobile number. I wouldn't get rid of it though as it diverts to my mobile.
 
It looks like something from the 90s, made using Microsoft Frontpage. Unfortunately I don't believe it conveys a very professional image about your company and I would suggest that you look into a template (there are many free ones out there) and then customise it to your needs.

Alternatively, contact a web developer/designer who may be able to help you out although expect to pay for it.

it's pretty standard. The point is to make things as easy as possible for the customer to contact you, not to have to click around finding out how

Not sure if it's suitable at all, but for my website (which is purely personal and not for business) I use Wordpress and a template called F8 Lite. Might be a place to start looking, if nothing else?
 
I would agree with most of the above comments - looks dated. I would also recommend looking into wordpress and a photo template. I built my site using wordpress and a (non-free) template - have a look....

Also the portfolio images that I looked at are too heavily compressed and as a result lack punch/sharpness. I would suggest re exporting them at a higher quality and with some additional sharpening.

In the portfolio section I feel you need more model images maybe a group shot, a female adult shot head and shoulders and full length?

In the landscape section i'd consider changing some of them to monchrome - the ones that have a tyre on the beach there's a few that are similar there's not much colour in those images so i feel changing them to B&W could make them stronger

I'm not sure why but when I view the images they look a little soft :|
as someone has suggested wix.com - it's free to use and you only pay if you want to link to your own domain name and have an ad free site. There's numerous templates to choose to.
 
It doesn't have to be a flash site, but it needs to be designed with a more current look in my opinion.

Also, you need to check the validation, the page isn't valid and may display completely differently in different browsers. You can check the validity by going here
 
If you aren't a web designer or developer you would be better off going for a decent prebuilt web package with a CMS (content management system) that also allows for templates.

As Hodders said, Wordpress + template.

Templates offer free and paid for options too.
