...I have just managed to spill a substantial amount of red nail polish onto my carpet and wool rug!

:runaway: :runaway: :runaway:

I have not touched it yet...

Hmm, hate to say it, but do you have contents insurance? Red is absolutely the worst colour it could have been, and being nail polish just compounds the problem.

What you should have done to give yourself the slightest chance was attacked it right away with copious amounts of nail polish remover or white spirit.......

Thanks Gramps, I have a rug and managed to get it on that too! Can't really move it to cover the rest without it looking really odd though.

Red is absolutely the worst colour

I know, I know...but my toenails are awesome... ;)

(Ido have insurance, but would rather not claim if I can avoid it!)

I bet you're popular in your house.

No, not popular at all, but as there is only me here I can deal with the unpopularity... :D

....red nails are pretty hot right enough..... forget the carpet, get some pictures of the nails posted.... :)

Bit drastic, but could you just cut out the damaged area and replace it with a matching piece? Rugs are usually replaceable, assuming it isn't a rare Persian or something like that!

a good few years ago i had a mate who worked for a carpet shop fitting carpets, every now and again they would get a role of carpet with oil on parts of the role from the machines that made the carpet, they used cellulose thinners to remove it

with this in mind another mate managed to tread oil up the stair carpet some years ago and remembering what i was told by the carpet fitter i thought it's worth a try
i was amazed at how the thinners dispersed the oil i thought it was going to damage the carpet for sure but not a trace was left
it smelled a bit for a few days but all signs of the oil was gone

iv'e no idea if the same stuff will work on nail varnish but if you do attempt to try it make sure you try on a bit of carpet where it can't be seen first just in case

don't blame me if it goes pear shaped all i can say is it worked for me with oil trampled into the carpet and the type of carpet that was down at the time :)

I would try a bit of nail polish remover on the stain but be aware that some removers might actually melt some carpets. Polish remover is often (?usually?) quite flammable so be careful and only use in well ventilated areas, especially if you try the flood approach. If all else fails, a slightly larger rug might cover the stain! ;)

Thanks all!

All sorted now. :woot:  :woot:

Called in a professional and he spent an hour and a half on it, seriously impressed and the best £45 I've spent in a while!

We all know threads are nothing without pictures, so here are the before and after ones. ( Thanks, Kip at Shining Knight, Worthing! )

Pretty cool ;)

I had to get a carpet cleaned recently. People who saw it before thought it would need a new one. People who saw it after thought I'd bought a new one :D

I would get them back ... they've totally changed the colours of the carpet and rug! smiley-face-whistle-2.gif

Result! AND only £30/hr (ignoring material costs.)

Glad you got it sorted..... nice shade of red!! :)

All this "red nail varnish" isn't fooling anyone, its obviously blood. An unfortunate Mod paid a home visit after too many forum infractions and tempers flared. Cobra's not been seen posting recently has he...

I'm sure the first photo had a receipt from Mongooses For Hire in it.

How did he do it what did he use?

Were you literally sprinkling it around? I was expecting a large pool type spill...not blood spatter from a head wound!

Neglected to screw the top on, picked it up by the top (which was on enough to get it over the carpet!) Bottle then bounced, decanting a fair amount of its contents onto the carpet, and with a final effort, made it onto the edge of my wool chinese rug!

If I am going to do something then I at least want to do it properly! :D

I've read this thread with some interest as a while ago my daughter spilt nail varnish over a relatively new bedroom carpet.

I had assumed it couldn't be removed and had put a rug over it.

Could I ask Heather who you used? Were they a national franchise etc or someone local to you?

Thanks, Tim.image.jpg

Shining Knight in Worthing according to an earlier post, Tim. Google will tell you if they're a national franchise (at a guess.)
