Hi folks

Does anyone use Nikon->Canon lens adaptors on the 5D or other full frame camera.

Any downsides? I'd like to use my Nikkor 17-35 f/2.8 lens which has an aperture ring - I believe it'll meter fine, and I can lock the aperture on the lens. I know it'll be MF only.

Any compromises optically?

Huge bump from the dead on this.

Right Canon 5D MKII shipped on 31st December.

So I'd like to use some of my Nikon lenses :)

Any real world experience? I've done some searching and come up with:

http://www.16-9.net/lens_tests/canon14l2_nikon1424/nikon1424_canon14l2_a.html

Generally the Nikon wide angle lenses smack the botties of Canon wide angle lenses, so I'm quite happy to get an adaptor if it means I keep my Nikkor optics.

Anyone doing this?

I have a friend, who has a friend, who is a fellow pro, who uses a Nikon body with Canon glass....claims neither can do a good enough job to make him stick to one system!

It was a while ago he told me about him...all I can remember is he shoots for one of the tourist boards in Cumbria (I think) or somewhere else oop north!

who uses a Nikon body with Canon glass

Thats impossible.

But it'll work the other way, if thats what you meant?

I read about a pro who had brass adapters made for Canon to Nikon .Loads of cash for that i'd imagine:D

This isn't the question I'm asking.

I don't want to put Canon lenses on a Nikon body (even if it was possible, which it isn't for all practical purposes due to flange / mount size differences)

I want to put Nikon lenses on a Canon 5D MKII :)

This is quite an interesting topic :)

I guess the only real way to find out is to try it. And I would interested in seeing the results.

I inquired about that same lens for a 1dsmk2 a while back and decided against it.....stuck with the 17-40. It is a great lens no doubt and far better than the canon offerings but in the end I thought it wasn`t worth it.

This guy uses one though...

Yeah could be the solution, I know that a lot of folks would rather use Nikon wides on Canon bodies (especially the 17-35 and the 14-24) but looking around only a few do it.

Might have a scout on Ebay for an adaptor for the 17-35...

Thanks for the link.

I think if you already have Canon glass it might not be much point - optically however I have the Nikkor 17-35 and the 14-24 (which I may not keep) so if I can re-use then, it makes much more sense...

There is certainly enough of a market that a number of adaptors exist.

Right folks, this is becoming a more pressing problem!!

!!!

I can't see that standing it on top of the box is going to work very well mate:nono: You'll need to attach it to the silver bit on the front of the camera:thumbs:

I think you're in a fortunate position to have a problem that some others would like to have! If I already owned a Nikkor 14-24 then, from what I've seen it produce, there'd be no question in my mind that I'd give the adaptor a shot.

What have you got to lose?

The 14-24 adaptor is really quite pricey, and while I do like the 14-24 I probably prefer my 17-35 (the lens on top of the 5D MKII box

(The 17-35 can use a nice £20 adaptor, as opposed to the £150 14-24 jobby!)

Mind you, the 14-24 is the best wide angle bar none optically.

Why's that, puddleduck? I would have thought that, since both Nikon lenses are AF-S FX non-VR, they'd have the same requirements of an adapter....

Yeah, its much easier to adapt non G lenses. You could still mount a "G" lens with a conventional adaptor I think but you'd only be able to shoot wide open (which isn't so much of a problem with the 14-24 I guess sharpness wise, but not ideal for landscape depth of field)
