Any bikers out there?

Nice pics everyone.

Question: how are bikes restircted in horsepower? How is it done?

It depends on the machine, some are restricted via the carbs (if they don`t have EFi, or via the exhaust.

You can buy a kit that`ll restrict most bikes, although some react better to it than others!

I'm still getting the cash together for my CBT, I fell in love with the Triumph Scrambler recently, and seen as my investments mature next year and I've got some silly grants coming my way for being good at the subject I've chosen to take at uni... it just seems the right move to get a little 125, and stick the rest in a bank account till I'm entitled to ride a normal motorcycle.

Clarity Edit: I know the Scrambler is a 865 with 55bhp, and that delimiting it into an A class bike (under 33 bhp) would be an evil evil sin, so I'm considering the cheapest bike I can afford and use in the mean time.

Big old beast but a great cruiser, first time my wife Caroline had been on a bike was last October when we rode it down from the UK to Spain

It's a great bike on the roads out here but a handful on the twisty mountain bits :naughty:

Cheers,

Neil

If I make it through to the 28th of December this year it will be 30 years since I passed my test :). The longest I've been off the roads was 6 months while I rebuilt a seized RGV250K :D

Sorry, I feel I must....

My '03 RR3 Firelade, which has just clocked up 20k. I've had it 3 years and it's the only bike I've ever kept for more than 12 months.... It now sports an Akrapovic full system....

blade1.jpg

But due to a health condition, it'll be PX'ed in the next couple of weeks for something a little less focused :'(. It's taken me to Europe 4 times, done 2 long weekends in the Lake District and many, many trips to bike racing....

Stopped riding after 20 years due to ... truthfully loosing my nerve, 2 near misses with young drivers pulling out and not looking then the third, damage to the bike only apart from a few bruises but lessons learnt.

My Baby before a very nice young lady took me out on a roundabout

I ride a 125 Honda Varadero XL V

It's a big bike for a 125cc, lots of poke to keep you out of trouble, no lorries parking up your rear, and gives a sense of confidence from the hight, great visibility.

I use my bike all the time, not having a car, and this is probably the best one I've had.

I do a lot of fishing, and like all anglers allways carry too much gear, this bike carries it all without flinching.

preacher. that harley is seriously cool.
an american who has realised your bike doesnt have to look like a tarts handbag , to be cool. a very rare thing.(no offence neilmac full dress toures ARE the exception)
how does it handle with the wide tyre on the front?

those varedero 125s dont look like a 125 do theytoonamp.
talking to a guy recently with one. to sart with, i didnt beleive it was a 125.

Thanks!

It is surprisingly nimble but much of that is the stance and geometry. The wide front end I put on there makes it a smoother ride on rough roads.

With the flat-tread tire, it does like to dive in to the corners. I am looking to replace the 'cool' looking tires with something that give me a little more performance.

I belong to a club that was built on the premise that chrome is evil, tassle are the work of the devil and the ideal that if it can be cut off, it should be!

I'd link you to our website, but this forum censors one of the words in the title/link :D

That sounds like a cool basis for a club! If I had a second Harley that's exactly how it would be. Even so, you won't find any tassles and all that malarky on my bike anyway. Mine's got a bit of extra chrome and some extra horsepower goodies but at the end of the day "chrome don't get you home!"

Cheers,

Wouldn't be to tricky to get that to handle better in the corners, stick a stiffer swing arm on, some expensive rear shocks and a fork brace across those fork legs bottoms...that and proper motorcycle profile tyres would change it dramatically in the corners ...better all round stability and may even add to the comfort as well.

Lovely looking bike BTW .... an old school treat.

there is a tassle and chrome add ons movement in the uk.
i realy have to stifle a laugh when i see tasles and stick on chrome filter covers/mirrors/anyold***** with "born to ride" or "ride free" printed all over em.
my 900 divi seems to be breeding flourescent and reflective stickers.
probably to stop me getting smeered over a large area by sleepy car drivers.
my old 750. if it ever gets finished, will be a little shinier. but i tend to like polishing my alloy bits.hate loads of chrome ***.i have weakened and bought some blue renthal type bars for it ***.
sorryi,m aiming at sort of cafe racer, modernised classic bike, but keeping it looking resonably standard.

Does it count that i'm learning?

forgive the quality, taken on my phone, but this is what i was learning on in Cyprus. Very scary learning to ride out there, everyone is a maniac  on the roads!
