Mrs B is looking to move up to a full size acoustic. Seen one, in the local music shop, that we really like the tone of, it's a Tanglewood. Just wondered if anyone knew anything about them, good make or not?
Or if anyone could recommend anything else, looking at around the £300 area.
Cheers :)

Tanglewoods are nice. But most importantly - you like the tone of it. So why not just get it? Ultimately, it's down to whether you like the feel and the sound of the instrument.

I had a Tanglewood but sold it, one of my biggest regrets. It was a beautiful instrument with a lovely tone and far nicer than a friend's Ovation that cost five times the price.

One of my brothers had permission from the chancellor to buy himself a new acoustic guitar, without any real budget. He tried all the usual suspects such as Martin, Takamine, and Lowden, but chose the one that to him both sounded and played the best, a £400 Tanglewood.

if it plays nice and feels right then thats all that matters, will the shop be setting it up with your chosen gauge strings?

I use Vintage and Crafter acoustics, Takamine are nice aswell.

I have a Vintage Les Paul Goldtop. A friend of mine is a good guitarist and knows his stuff about them as well. He came round one day and I covered the name on the headstock and let him play it. I asked what he thought it cost, and he reckoned about £750. His face was a picture when I told him it was £195 including postage.

Aint nowt wrong with Vintage axes. Nor Crafter for that matter.

Thanks for the replies folks, I totally appreciate the comments about if it feels and sound right. I was only concerned, as I know nothing about guitar manufacturers, that certain makes we're a complete no no.

Last time I looked at Tanglewood's website they were boasting awards for the best Acoustic guitars. I have a Tanglewood Bass and it's a lovely thing.

Tanglewood are good guitars for the price. Have a look at Faith guitars which are excellent for the price and are solid wood rather than laminate.

I have too many acoustics (Lowden, Fylde, Gibson and two Faith Signature guitars that were made by Furch), These are all higher end guitars but as well as these I have a Faith standard which impresses everyone that has a play. They are fantastic guitars.

Chris :)

Tangle wood are a great British brand of acoustic guitar - I've got two, and know some of the guys at the company. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone - they have a nice range at various prices so it should be fairly easy to pick one in your price bracket.
