Ants in the lawn. Especially at edges?

Hi

I have a large lawn out the back, a lot of it edges up next to patio type slabs or concrete. On these grass/slab edges the ants seem to go mad and create large "dirt" patches, 2" or 3" higher than surrounding area that spill all over the concrete areas. I also get patches within the actual lawn of these dirt bits.
Ive nothing particularly against ants but it would be nice not to have these annoying areas. Any advice on sorting out?

Live with it! Sorry not to be able to help you sort the problem (if it is a problem) but while you may win a battle or 2, you'll always lose any war against nature! Sweep the sandy dirt off the path/patio if it bothers you and rub the piles on the grass back into the lawn to stop the bare patches of spoil getting seeded by dandelions or the like. Keep an eye on the edges in the early mornings - Green Woodpeckers seem to love using them as a buffet!

Buy some Ficam D ( norty but its available )
Mix it 50/50 with sugar, and sprinkle it around the area.
( a tea spoon full goes a long way )
They will die pretty rapidly, but not before they have taken it back and fed it to the queen.
The only fool proof way of killing a nest is to kill the queen.
Keep it way from pets ( its kills cats and fish)

You can also buy sachets, ( Ficam W ) that you mix with 5L water and soak the area using a pressure sprayer.
As above keep away from pets.

No worries, Keith, you could always put a sheet of glass or something like that fractionally off the ground once you have applied the Ficam.
But I fully understand

True. but knowing my clumsy ass Id stand on it and smash it. How long does the ficam remain a danger? Prob says in that data sheet doesnt it.

Ficam W (Water) is pretty harmless to pets and stuff once its dried
Ficam D ( Dust) Stored in the container and in the cool, has a couple of years shelf life.
exposed to the environment, if it stays dry then a few months, if it gets a good soaking then a couple of weeks.

Prob says in that data sheet doesnt it.
