Week 7: Delicate

Baboon holding it's delicate and precious cargo...bit of normality from me this week. Taken on a trip to South Lakes Animal Park this afternoon for my sons 3rd birthday tomorrow. Excuse the lack of exif info, but it was taken with a fully manual lens....Soligor 70-220mm f3.5-4.5 @ 1/100 @ f3.5, ISO 400;

Beautiful shot Paul, a break from your unnormal shots.:D Excellent processing as usual. Shall I try and pick fault? OK then, couple of very small niggles. Her tail slightly chopped. And these are even more minor but I am drawn to them, the small white dot on her chin and the blase of grass on her left shoulder.
Sorry, it sounds really petty and I am very uncomfortable pointing out such small things. But i know that it helps me when others point them out.

No problem at all Colin, to be honest I can't believe I missed that white dot!! I also originally cropped off her tail because there was something else creeping into shot, but in retrospect I shouldn't have been so lazy and edited that out!

slightly edited;

Hiya Paul,

Well done on such a lovely photo for this week. I like the b&w processing and the fix of the things Colin pointed out.

It is a change from your norm, but I like it very much.

Cheers

Dawn :)

 And you even figured out that "blase of grass" meant blade of grass, well done:thumbs:

Hi, Paul, yur delicate is great and well processed.

Really gives a sence of emotion and caring. The mud really adds to it and this is one photograph where eye contact would detract from it.

Cheers.

Hiya Paul,

What a lovely shot, and so cute, I find it hard to imagine he can cause chaos :D

Love the catchlight in the eyes, just a pity you have clipped the chin and top of the head.

Otherwise I think the b&w conversion looks great.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

wk: 09 - Finished For The Day

Our local park runs miniature trains on a weekend, and my son loves them. Totally free, they are run by my town's model train enthusiast club and rely on donations from the people that use them....certainly get one from me for the pleasure my son gets from them;

Sorry for the b&w again, but it just floats my boat at the minute :bonk: a certain piece of software keeps stripping the exif out though when used, so here goes;

Camera: Pentax K-7
Lens: Pentax SMC 35mm f2.4 DA
Exposure: 1/800s @ f2.8
ISO: 100
PP: Lightroom & Dynamic Photo HDR

Hiya Paul,

Yep, I like your photo for the Finish theme and I like the conversion too.

I know the park you are talking about, and my son absolutely loved the ride on the train too. It has been a while since we last visited the park, it may be time to pop past there again soon.

I know what you mean about the b&w images, I seem to be on a bit of b&w stint at the mo too (although not posted here yet).

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Not been on your thread in a while Paul.
Some great pictures, especially the clutter shot - excellent take on the theme.

I like your 'Open' shot too. Have you ever heard of Slinkachu? Check out his web. He does a lot with small figures like yours. I'd love to have his imagination.

Heard of him alright mate, massive fan!

Good to see you back in action Paul. Chaos shot is very nice, my first thought was "Oh No! he's dropped a camera!"

Hi Paul...

Love your trio shot... Have to admit as the good weather has come in and my workload increased at home and at work I'm struggling to keep up a bit.

I think I need a catch up week myself... should get a chance this weekend.

Your shots always impress me... and the last three are no exception. Great work... as usual!

Mark

Hiya Paul,

Yep I like your Trio shot, well done

Is this a self portrait that you took three shots of and stitched together?

I like the b&w conversion. To me the focus looks a bit soft and the whites a tad bright, either that or someone needs to see a bit of sunshine soon  (but then again don't we all need some sun after the winter we have had).

And finally my little nit pick is that the image is slightly wonky.

Otherwise a great take on the theme.

Cheers

Dawn :)

thanks all....

Yep, three self portrait shots stitched together. I rushed the pp a bit as I had to get to work so missed how milk-bottle white my hands looked, will give it a tweak and repost when I get home.

Also, I might have missed the focal point slightly hence the slight softness, but as i'm using a completely new system i'll forgive myself for that one! (plus I was rushing about and should have taken a bit more time!)

On the wonkyness....our back garden slopes upwards, so it was either have a straight path and the bricks are at an angle, or a slanted path and straight bricks!

Great shot and really clever idea. Very nicely done - I can't see the joins

I feel it would benefit from more dramatic lighting - maybe something like a Hardlight layer in PS

Cheers, Patrick

Great thought process behind Trio. I want to take on a composite shot like at some point, and wish I'd thought to do so for that week's theme.

Week 13: Empty ....apart from me on a lonely night-shift

Taken on my HTC Desire HD with Vignette app and using Ilford filter!

Week 11 Knowledge. Brilliant and brave. I had a similar idea to take a picture of my library but had a change of heart.

Week 12 Moderate. Undecided on this one so far.

Week 13 Empty. Not sure if the graininess is the app or just the phones performance in low light but it works really well for this shot. Might be tempted to crop slightly at the bottom. (cropping at the bottom for week 13 not 11 :D)

Week 11: Knowledge.....the only place I get to sit and take it in :)

5589954199_25382158a5_b.jpg

 It's a good job (pardon the pun) that we are beyond the watershed :D

Now I know why I sit up till late on TP :bonk:

Brilliant take on the theme

I think your blank space for week 12 is quite apt after week 11 :D All things in moderation :p

So .... swiftly onto week 13: Empty ..... OMG just realised that follows on from week 11 and 12 :bonk:

Guess one needs to be alone .... on the job :naughty:

Well done and thanks for the laff

I'm out of here :exit:

Cheers

Dawn :)

Your knowledge set my day off to a great start.

And I'm apt to take a few breaks when needed to do the same...and also read a book!

Cheers.

Well, unfortunately I must admit defeat with the 52....i've just that much going on at the moment; a 3 year old, a 1 year old, both me and the wife working shifts (so alot of the time it's like ships passing in the night), as well as maybe a career change in the pipeline makes it nigh on impossible to put as much effort in as I would like (or it deserves), and I certainly aint posting stuff "for the sake of posting".....so i'll bow out now knowing I tried, and hopefully put a different perspective on some things.

Maybe try again next year.

Hiya Paul,

Don't look at it as defeat .... you have done your best considering all you mentioned. You have been an ace member of the team and have produced some very inspiring photos (for which I thank you).

I can fully appreciate that life is hectic and even find it a challenge at times to keep afloat myself.

What I admire about your post is the honest and graceful approach, and can see that you have given careful consideration to your decision (hence why I will not try to sway your decision). You have identified your priorities and for that I respect you.

I wish you all the best with your career change ... may it all go well. Look after those little ones, they are so precious and grow up in the blink of an eye, they are most important .... as is spending quality time with your OH when you get time.

Let this not be goodbye .... if ever you fancy a bit of a challenge ... why not pop past the 52 to see what is happening .... even if you get the inspiration to post now and again ... after all who is keeping count.

For me, I have really enjoyed seeing what you deliver each week, and I will be keeping watch for any other posts you may add on the other side of this project .... in TP land.

You take care ... and all the best .... I will miss you

Cheers

Dawn :'(

:agree:

I read your first line Paul and immediately tried to think of ways to persuade you otherwise. But after reading your full explanation you ihave obviously not taken the decision lightly and as Dawn said your priorities are where they should be.

I'm lucky in the fact that at the moment I can devote as much ime to my hobby as I wish Even then I couldn't match your efforts in the 52 and looked forward to seeing your submissions.

Your thread is bookmarked so if you do get a chance later in the year to put another couple of weeks up I'll be sure not to miss them.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I,ll pop in now and again and try and have a browse (and maybe actually leave some comments!) And maybe if time allows actually sly the odd submission in now and again.

As well as everything that's going on, my main aim as far as TP is concerned is photographer of the year. I'm doing quite well so far and feel I can only do one or the other at the moment.

Thanks for the encouraging words, its appreciated :)
