Hi all,
I've dumped Avast free anti virus because it was slowing down my Win10 PC , I'm now using the Windows anti-virus - is this good enough ? If not can anyone recommend a decent one that won@t slow machine down ?
Thanks !

If you're using Windows 10, and everything is up to date, you already have a solid, free tool built in that won't hog your system resources and will keep an eye on things in the background.

And if you're using nothing at all, immediately go enable Windows Defender. (Do it now!)
its not even ‘anti virus’ that name is so outdated it’s Malware that is the problem today, unfortunately there isn’t a definitive answer to your question..there’s so many to choose from. Personally I use AVG.

I use Bitdefender across my family computers and have done since 2015. Seems to do the job, haven't seen it hogging resources and it has a good reputation.

I also run Malwarebytes free every day.

I am sure Windows Defender does a good job, it would look bad for Microsoft if it didn't.

360 total security free and paid for version, worth a look :)

Over the years I have found that Norton and Macafee have been resource hogs.

Kaspersky was good and light touch but as they, at the time, dropped support for W2000 I switched to Eset Security and to date I have found also lighter touch.

Norton is much better these days, there was a time it was a resource hog.
Don't start me off with Mcrapee as I view them the same as Crapard Bell.
Norton AV, NOD32 and Kaspersky would be my choices for AV software.
I've found plenty of maleware on computers only using Windows Defender and I would not rely soley on it.

I was reading an article on Mr McAfee after he died recently. (If you don't know about his life it's certainly worth a Google.) One of the tamer stories was that their anti-virus was never very good but their marketing was excellent :)

Personally I use Windows Defender and never notice it doing anything except remind me that it has "protected" me for x days.

Just use the built-in (and free) Windows Security / Defender... it works just fine.

Old post but hey ho.

I used BullGuard since 2014. Only this year I uninstalled it because it was slowing my PC down. Good riddance to it. I now use Win10 built in guards.

Me too!!
Windows Defender with weekly scans from Malwarebytes Free and AdwCleaner Free would be perfectly acceptable.
Malwarebytes offers a trial which converts to free as required.
I have used and paid for F-Secure from it's inception but have practial experience with my other recommendations.

Interesting, I have also used BullGuard for many years and no real evidence that it slow down my computer.
