Ansel Adams on the radio

Thanks for the heads up on this one. I may have heard it when I went to see the Ansel Adams exhibition last year but, if so, worth a second listen.

Dave

Well I was very disappointed :(
Where was the interesting stuff about Ansel?
All I learned in the 30 mins was that he was born in 1902, used a big 10x8 camera, took pictures in Yosemite and that his prints sell for 1000's of $$$. Well thanks Beeb, we already knew that. All the program seemed to be was some "clever " bloke with a bunch of old cassette tapes telling us how wonderful it was to hear peoples voices when you can get the tapes to play.
Rant over. Actually I missed the last 5-10 mins so it might have got better...

I listened to it today, and agree with Jim. I think it was the first radio programme I've listened to since the 1960s, and if this is a typical example I'll wait another 50 years before repeating it. The most interesting part was a couple of sentences in the last 9 minutes (I was clock watching to see how much more I had to endure just in case there were gems in the dungheap).

I couldn't see (literally and figuratively) why it was necessary to go to Avebury to have someone say that this (unseen) object is a 10x8 camera; and I don't think we needed to know that the presenter was popping back to his car to get an umbrella...

Don't give up on the radio Stephen:)
I listen to radio, particularly Radio4, more than I watch TV and the Beeb is marvelous but in this instance [The Ansel Adams prog] they didn't come up to normal high standards. All the more annoying when the subject is a hero of mine since boyhood, grrr!
