Hi all,

You guys are probably sick of the question but I'm hoping someone will help me out. I like taking photos but I've never really given it the time of day.
I want a camera for general use, and to take photos of the night sky.

For my usage, I'm wondering if a DSLR is overkill? Would a 450D be sufficient enough for this? (my Dad has one which he wouldn't mind letting me use).
I used to have a Fuji XM1 which was great, although I sold it a while back as I wasn't using it as much.

Any help would be appreciated as to be honest, I'm absolutely clueless when it comes to cameras.

Thanks,

John

Most important question - what is your budget?

If your dad is willing to let you use his 450D it might be a good idea to have a play and see how you get on.

If you're going to be shooting the night sky you'll want to get a tripod as you'll be using slow shutter speeds :)

Well if your dad has a camera he will let you use make the most of it and use it mate save your pennies because if you get hooked on photography you will need everyone of them lol

As others have said, if your Dad is willing to lend you a camera then take advantage. If you find you don't like photography then you've lost nothing. If, on the other hand you get hooked, then you can go from there.
