I'm looking into getting a bag to hold my gear. I have a 450d, kit lens and the EF-S 55-250 lens. I'm not going to be getting anything else for quite some time. What would you recommend as the best bag to handle this gear ? I've seen suggestions for the Crumpler Pretty Boy, and I think that the Maxi L would take the gear, but I'm not certain. Thanks in advance.

I've got a pretty boy 4000 XL and I love the bag but its not big enough. I've got a 40D + 17-85, 55-20 and 10-22 - whichever one I put on my camera is the wrong one so I'm going to start carrying all 3 most of the time. But I intend to stay with crumpler cause I like the style and they dont shout out 'camera bag'.

I bought a crumpler (think it was medium) when i first got my 400D and kit lens, but it was too small, i know have the crumpler maxi XXXL and it fits my 400D, 18-55, and 55-250 lens, and i could get another lens in it, with the front pocket holding all batteries and cards etc.. i think its a great bag and meets my needs and sounds like it would fit yours too.

I've got the Lowepro Slingshot 100 AW - very nice bag. Fits my 40D with 17-50mm Tamron, a 55-250mm and a nifty fifty. And there's room for memory cards, battery, lens hood, etc. Very comfy and compact. It's also got a cover that pulls out for rainy or sandy conditions.

Subscribe to phot plus magazine at £40 pa and they'll send you a Lowepro sling type bag worth £60 - magazine for free in effect !

Of the Crumplers you need a Maxi XXL with your current kit, or possibly the XXXL if you want to carry all the extras like the battery charger, mains cable, computer leads etc etc. I'd go for the latter, as it gives you soem scope to carry extras such as an ipod, or room for a future flashgun etc - its not that big , about 14" across the width.

Thanks for the information everyone. That's given me some things and options to ponder.

I've never used anything other than Lowepro bags, can't fault them...nice and black too!

I have a Mini-Trekker just now, and carry all the kit in my sig in it!

The free one that comes with photo plus may be too big for what you want. It makes the 400d, with kit, look tiny, and would easily take another 3 lens (as long as they're not L series size) and a small flash unit in the camera section. In the top bit you could fit a water proof and lunch!

Sometimes I wish I would stop reading so much information and make a decision. I've narrowed it down to:

Crumpler PB XXXL
Lowepro Slingshot 100AW
Tamrac Velocity x7

As far as I can tell, the Crumpler has a waterproof liner, the Lowepro a waterproof cover, but I can't find any information on the Tamrac. Anyone know if the Tamrac is waterproof ? How comfortable is each bag in use ?

If you like the Slingshot concept (I didn't) then I'd look at the Lowepro 200AW as it won't be such a tight squeeze.

I use a mini-trekker which has lots of extra space (you don't have to fill it up with camera gear you know - will take an ipod, mobile phone, can of pop, jumper, pacamac...

After some advice from my fashion consultant (SWMBO), I've gone for the Crumpler XXXL. It's just arrived and it's excellent. Thanks for the advice and comments all.

Cheers for the heads up on Photo Plus, I assume it's the Slingshot 200 they're giving away, which is just what I need :D

Lowepro Slingshot 100AW is the bag I use. Very versatile and hardwearing. I carry it everywhere cause I take my camera everywhere with me. Had it since February and still looks like new. Doesn't look like a camera bag so doesn't draw attention. Whatever suits you. Go to a shop and have a look at a few :)
If you intend on extending your kit in the near future you need to bear this is mind too.

Its the fast pack 200, its bigger than the slingshot, has two straps (a rucksack) but it has the easy access so you can slip it off one shoulder and swing it round. I got the free one (took about 2 weeks), in black but it was too big so passed it on to a friend in exchange for a crumpler!
