Hi Stephen, And welcome aboard TP, looking forward to hearing from you and maybe seeing some of your images on the various forums. "Enjoy".

Good to see another local here and a one thats a biker too, Welcome along.
Cheers,I don't do cars ( the boss uses the car I never get a chance) but she doesn't get the keys to my bikes either lol.
Looking forward to taking my camera out & about with me as ime on the bike daily,

A very warm welcome to the forums Stephen.(y)

Welcome! Good sensible camera choice, the 400d is excellent and can still give a fancy model a run for its money in normal light Have fun looking through the forum, there is a huge amount to take in, if there's anything you're unsure of just post a question :) enjoy!

Hi Stephen :welcome:

Welcome, another biker here :)
400d is a good choice for starting out, what lens(s do you have?

18-55mm it came with the camera when I bought it off a mate,
Ime not really sure what else i need, probably a zoom lens but being a real newby to photography ( and on a really tight budget)I have no idea what to look for or get.

OK Kit lens, not bad, more useful than some people give it credit for. I replaced it on my sons camera with a 15-85 as a good walkabout, but it depends what you want to shoot as for lens choice.
Don't forget to checkout the beginners section. Lots of useful stuff in there

as a biker i get about a bit so hopefully ille be taking it with me as much as possible, we also have a caravan in newquay ( west wales ) in the process of decorating there most weekends so ille be taking it there with me this weekend, ( if the other half gives me some time off from decorating ) i may get out & give it a go.
also gonna start looking for a zoom lens so any suggestions greatly recieved ;)

Canon 70-200 f4 quality, sharp, light, so easy to carry on a bike ;). The newer 75-300 is supposed to be good. I'd buy secondhand, obviously here or mpb photographic.

Newquay is lovely, we stayed on the banks of the river at cardigan last year, been working our way around Pembrokeshire., so travelled all around that area. Lucky person.

Hi and welcome Steve - my advice would be to not worry about other lenses until you have used your camera with its present lens and learned what it (and you) can and can't do.

Also what, if any, particular types of photos you really enjoy taking - and then make a choice of other gear based on those things.
.
