Not sure which section to post this so please move if needed.

I recently did a few images for our works website (only pretty basic stuff but it serves a purpose). We have found out that another company in Indonesia has not only copied a number of images, but huge chunks of the text (which he's obviously just copied and pasted onto his site) too. :bang: I wouldn't mind if he was buying from us, but he isn't and the cost of chasing him round Indonesia for payment etc would be way too much.

This is our site:
http://www.flexibleconnections.co.uk/rubber-flexible-connectors

and this is theirs:
http://www.samudrateknik.com/rubber.html

The cheek of some people!

Looks like theyve also nicked the rubber hose and green box Fabric Connector pics as well

Invoice them, get screens shots, as theyll see traffic going to their site and remove the images

I run a busy non-profit site used by various charities and we've got used to it.

We once had an image stolen from our site, not a photo but an original cartoon image, and the owner of the site using the stolen image emailed to accuse us of using their image. It seems they'd been ripped off by their web-designer but they still untruthfully insisted they had the original drawing which of course they didn't. We later noticed they'd quietly removed it.

We regularly get the content of the site stolen straight off the page including all the coding (and our spelling mistakes). Frequently they're amateur sites but one regular culprit is a UK company that runs a large number of ad-laden websites on various unconnected subjects.

Short of employing a lot of lawyers with money we don't have there's probably not much that can stop it especially against commercial operators.

Just had an email back from the guy:

"Dear Sirs

I have deleted all content of my website, i'm so sorry for this inconvenice
i promise this is never happen again in next time

Best Regards"

He tried his luck I suppose. No harm done that I know of.

Judging by the grammar, I can see why he had to copy and paste... :bang:

Not to digress too much from the fact that image theft is wrong - but I'm sure your Indonesian, in comparison, is just fantastic :cuckoo: :bonk:

Knocking his English when it is likely to be their second or third language is pretty low.

yeah because everyone cares about an image thiefs feelings :shake:

and incidentally if we are being pedantic the official language of indonesia is "bahasa indonesia" which is in turn a standardised version of the malay dialect "riau"

He replied quickly, apologised and took down the infringing content without fuss. Sure, he shouldn't have done it in the first place (OP, I'm not contending that at all), but he could just as easily have ignored it, sat on the email for weeks and not bothered at all.

Yeah I agree. He took the entire website down within about an hour or 2, so I'm sure he knew what he was doing and just tried his luck. As we don't export much I'm not too bothered. I think if they had been a UK based company then I may well have been a bit more upset.
