Yes
I think it must be a new one.

I think we need another one. In fact I think there should be a society for every photographer on earth.

:bang:

Is this a new one? Never heard of them before. Looks like another business to me. http://www.national-photographic-society.co.uk/

Hi, I just registered to say that no, the NPS is not new, we've been around a few years now, and that you're quite wrong about it being another business, it's run as a not for profit organisation by myself and a few other photographers.

We are growing rapidly (200+ new members this week commencing 5th March 2012) and all the subscriptions paid in go back out to the members in benefits (like free website hosting, free cloud storage etc)

All this info is on the website at www.thenps.co.uk.

Thanks

Rod

Hey Rod, welcome to TP, thanks for the answer and good luck with The NPS.
Should have studied the website more perhaps? Apologies.

EDIT: My perception may have been wrong but I, admittedly, just had a quick look at the Homepage and 'about us' page and there's nothing that stands out to say you are a non-profit organisation or when you were established, unless I've made a bad mistake and it's just me, perhaps it would help to make this clear on the website. Again apologies if it's just me.

I dont believe for a second you are non profit. A non profit organisation that charges up to £250 a year for membership. Being a non profit organisation and not making any profit are 2 different things.

Its pretty clear you are getting affiliate fees from many companies such as amazon affiliates and i am guessing other referral affiliate fees. This would suggest to me that your aim is to make profit. Maybe so far you have failed to do so but that does not make you a non profit organisation.

hahaha

That will soon be the case me thinks.

This looks like just another bunch of people jumping on the bandwagon,
I am more than willing to be corrected but just what exactly can this mob offer than others can't or don't already.
Oh look another bunch of snappers telling me my snaps are worthy of an "award" and letters which no customer takes a blind bit of notice of.
Oh look - more mentoring.
Oh look - another "ask the expert" section
Oh look - I can have a "free" (well only after you pay your annual membership fee) member profile.
ETC ETC blah blah

Sorry - my cynicism kicks in when I see all this stuff.

Interestingly the website doesn't show what the various levels of memberships gives you either. Seems to be a collection of links to me, and run from a semi in Southampton, can't say that it inspires me either.

Give the guy a break! If you don't want to join, then don't. There's no harm in setting up something new, whether it's profit making or not. Looking at some of the other so-called professional associations out there, the bar is set pretty low and if Rod can do better, then good luck to him.

Yes and they are all just as bad as each other. At least most of them admit to being in it to make profits.

Courious if it's been around a few years, I can't find it in companies house.
