A big hello to you all, I joined the site a couple of weeks ago having decided to get back to taking pictures on a camera and stop being so reliant on my camera phone. I started with a DSLR some years back using the Canon 300D with standard kit lens and the bundled 70 - 300 mm lens. I found the kit lens to be OK but the 70 -300mm didn't quite hit the mark for me so although I still have it, I have barely used it. I then moved to the Canon 30D (sorry all you Nikon guys but Canon seem to have my custom) and continued to use the kit lens from the 300D as this was a body only purchase. I was never really happy with the move, I found the 30D just wasn't sharp enough for me, at times it would seem nice and crisp and other times it was as though the AF just didn't lock on properly. I tried some test's using text with manual and auto focus and these were fine so I put it down to the fact I just wasn't up to par with this camera. The camera bag and all it's belongings found it's way into the loft (attic) where it stayed for some years until two weeks ago, where, inspired by the recent SKY Arts Master of Photography program I not only decided to get the stuff out of the loft but I also decided to buy a used Canon EOS 1Ds Mk2 as I wanted to give full frame a go and to try out a pro camera to see why they were so expensive. I also added a Canon 70 - 200 USM L F4 lens to my kit as I wanted an L lens and this was the only one I could afford.
Having read quite a few entries on the various forums on here I have since found that lenses have a sweet spot, (something I was unaware of that maybe contributed to my issues with the old 70 - 300 lens) as well as a raft of information on all manor of subjects. I am looking forward to taking some of this information and over time putting it in to practice and of course sharing my obvious mistakes and also my odd good fortune where shooting an image went right.
I have been a member of a number of forums although these have mainly been vehicle based, and this is the first time I have read through various sections and found all the members to be courteous and helpful and I hope that in time, I may be able to offer some insight/assistance to another member on here thanks to all the useful information I have picked up.
There you go, introduction over, I hope it wasn't too long or tedious, many thanks for taking the time to read it
