Hiya, nobody bites here so fire away :)

I went to the local photography shop with all th intenstion of buying a Canon D350.
But when i held it it just didn`t feel quite right i didn`t like the way the weighted of it made it feel like it was falling farwards all the time, so the shop person showed me a Nikon D50 which felt a lot better to grasps to me plus it was on special offer £474.50 which from a shop i thought was not a bad deal. The shop person also said that the supplied lens with the nikon is far better then the canon, this i couldn`t tell.
any way since getting 2 weeks ago i have proberbly taken twice as many photos than with my old point a shot (or should that be point shot wait 5-10 sec for the camera to take photo) digi camera in ayear.

Welcome to the slippery slope. Once you have mastered the basics with your camera you start thinking about all the other things you could buy for it. Lens, flashgun, tripod, bags... and so it goes on :)

All part of the fun.

Enjoy.

Peter,

great choice with the Nikon D50, to be honest at this level of equipment the most important thing is the feel of it in your hands and how good it feels to the eye, as for the difference between the Nikon and the Canon......well, thare aint much in it to be honest, however you were advised correctly on the quality of the kit lens with the Nikon, not to say you cant buy good lenses with the Canon, but they tend not to bundle it in the kit with the 350,

as you have said already , the secret is to take lots and lots of pix, for one it doesnt cost you anything to do so, and the second is the more you take the better you will get , make sure you pop a few up on here for some friendly critique , and general pointers ( if you need any )

happy snapping
