Hi, I've just registered as I've come across this site when researching a new camera - looks a friendly place.
Background: I've been a snapper for many years, never really taken photography all that seriously but the wealth of information available now makes it so much easier to learn and ask daft questions.
I did treat myself to a Nikon D50 back in 2006, loved it and have images that still stand out, but budgetary squeeze meant I had to sell and stick with my compact - since then I've tried all sorts of compacts and bridges, and most recently they are:
- A Panasonic Lumix FS30 - brilliant little pocket camera, passes the 'four pints test' (i.e. I can still use it after four pints)
- A Fuji HS10 - a bit of a beast, and for me pretty unusable.
It's the Fuji that's finally settled it for me - I'm going back to DSLR, and picking up a Nikon D3000 on clearance.
Reason? I'm nearly fifty, my eyes aren't what they used to be, and my arms are no longer long enough to use an LCD for taking pictures. So it's an optical viewfinder for me - the EVF in the Fuji is hopeless.
Hopefully I've taken the right decision and I'll keep this camera for more than six months!
