Ok where to begin. As some of you may know I used to have a 5D, and earlier this year I sold it because of a few money problems I had. I regretted selling it ever since, so I’ve been saving hard and sold a few things and managed to get a £1000 together. I’ve been toying with the idea of buying a 30D and actually did buy one a few weeks ago. I kept it for a few days and then took it back because after my 5D it just didn’t feel right.

Yeah I can imagine some of you shouting snob or worse at you monitors.:D Well now for the good news, I was doing a search yesterday and found that Bristol cameras are selling the 5D body only for £1,650, and that’s before the cash back. I couldn’t believe my eyes, so I phoned them and they confirmed it. So I thought to myself if Jessops are doing a price match and giving you 110% of the difference that’s another £30 off. And when you take the £200 cash back off your left with a 5D for £1,420.

So this morning off I went to my local Jessops armed with the print off from Bristol cameras, and a copy of Digital camera so they couldn’t say we don’t price match. The guys face was a picture, after he picked his jaw up off the floor he did the price match. So I’m now a happy boy again and the owner of a new 5D.

well done Ash, well spotted

Well done on your new purchase and hopefully you'll keep it this time. ;)

Congratulations, well done on the haggling aswell

nice one! :D

Bargain stories always bring a warm fuzzy feeling. ;)

Thanks guys, yes I'll be keeping this one. I might have to sell one of the kids but I'm defiantly keeping the 5D. ;) My next targets are a battery grip and a 24-105, not at the same time. But that won't be until the new year.

Well done Ash

DONT USE CANNED AIR ON IT.
lol

ROTFL. Bitter lesson learned there I think!

Well done indeed Ash. It has to be said - for a full frame sensor, the 5D is a fantastic price!

Hi, madpup, if I'm honest mate I learned that lesson a long time ago when I had my 300D, but thanks for the warning.;) I have the sensor swabs and cleaning fluid left from the first 5D I had.

Thanks CT, that's the main reason why I wasn't happy with the 30D. It's a great camera but after having a 5D I considered it a backward step. (No offence to 30D owners):exit:

Asking this of anyone with the 5D and the 30D or 350D:

Is the viewfinder on the 5D that much larger / clearer ?

I've noticed that the 30D has a much better viewfinder than the 350D, due to the fact the 350D uses a pentamirror instead of a pentaprism like the 30D (because its cheaper) and was curious how the 5D compares against these, also how does it fair to the 1 series?

I've never used or tried any of the 1D's, and from memory the view finder on the 5D is slighty larger then the 30D. I also think it's a bit brighter as well, hope this helps.
