Another lightroom question

I'm currently evaluating lightroom on it's 30 day trial and must admit I like it alot, much quicker than the beta's I tried.

I have one question though, when I've finished fiddling with the raw and go to open the image in CS2 it alawys seems to create the the PSD file in the same folder as the RAW is there anyway to get it to ask me where to save this instead ? I find it a real PITA to have to move the new image everytime to somewhere else, mainly because I forget :)
 
Andy, do you mean the file with the changes that you have just made in the develop module of lightroom? Or do you mean that as you go to open in PS it says do you want to stack the photo with the original?


I just say yes....then when Ive fiddled in PS I save as a TIFF.....to wherever I want.

Is this what you meant or not?

Sorry I wasn't very clear was I.

Once I've fiddled in the develop module I then choose Edit in Adobe CS2 and I get asked if I want to stack with original but it doesn't ask me where I want to store the newly created PSD file, it just sticks "-Edit" on the end and saves it in the same folder.

Well isnt that the best place for it? then you have the original and a manipulated RAW if you need it later. What if you click "dont stack with the original?"

I keep all my RAW's & processed files in separate folders. 'Don't Stack' just means they aren't stacked together visually so you get two thumbnails.

Thanks for the link but's not exactly the same issue, these guys want them in the same folder but I don't :)
 
Hmm, I think perhaps you want to cling to the manual way of organising your files, by creating your own folder structure.

The way that digital asset management software (including Lightroom, iView etc) is going is to try and keep most of the directory structure organised and hidden from the user. Instead, the user is presented with comprehensive metadata tag and search features to find their files.

I've found the change a bit strange, but am now getting to grips with the workflow and find it more straightforward.
