Yes
where and in what situations would you use a 50mm 1.8 lens.thank you.

Low light situations mainly, although not restricted to this. I use mine with a Raynox Macro filter.

Have alook HERE

Most lenses have Groups on Flickr.. the Canon 50mm f/1.8 has at least two or three dedicated groups. A look through any of these groups will give an indication of what this type of lens will do.

Hi Garry

The 50mm f1.8 is also a great portrait lens, allowing portraiture by natural window light without flash or high iso. Its large aperture, f1.8 allows 8 times as much light through to the sensor than the 18-55mm kit lens and does a great job of blurring backgrounds.
A must have if you're currently using only 18-55. John

Pixel-peeper have a look on here... Will also give you some idea (just input the camera & lens etc)

Any low light situation or where I want shallow depth of field.

Mines hardly ever off the camera

I love my 50mm, it's great for portraits, low light, and some nifty playing with depth of field.

Plus, it's incredibly light for carrying around too.

I use a 50mm 1.8 nearly all the time, it's great for just about everything. I also use mine with a tube or two for a bit of gentle macro work.

It's pretty versatile - I mainly use it for 'specialist' things such as custom bokeh shapes and macro with extension tubes
