Hi.

I have a simple question. is it worth taking out insurance for £90 extra to insure a lens i may purchase from them?

apparently it covers accidental damage and theft for 3 years! quiet a bargain seeing as amazon charge double for similar insurance

Always a tough choice and one that you have to make on your own. I cover all my gear under a specific photo policy as it also gives me liability insurance etc. If I didn't have that I might be persuaded but then again there might be better options, one being get nothing. I've yet to damage a lens which includes shooting sports and weddings for quite a few years let alone fun shooting so you can make your own mind up.

I have always taken this sort of things on laptops though as I find I do have problems with all the moving around I do with mine.

What policy is that? I have a laptop as well but my lens will cost double and get used and carried around more then my laptop

Have you checked the small print? Knowing Jessops I wouldn't be surprised if it only covered damage cause by dropping it from a unicorn, or theft by orcs.

Not sure this is relavant but does need looking into further.

i) Your inability to use your equipment or from damage caused as a result of the equipment breaking down.

Insurance companies have a nack of wiggling out of paying I would say more so for a bigger company like Jessops would try it, Oh got caught in the raind (freak storm) not covered.

all T&Cs can be found HERE

Thanks I will check that out later

If only john Lewis sold the lens. I heard they have brilliant insurance and customer support
