I just want to say 'Thank You' to all those you have replied to my PM's over the last few days, 'You know who you are....'.

I know I will never make a pro sports togger because...
a) I'm 57 so too old...LOL
b) I have Lumbar and Cervical Spondylosis....can't go rushing around
c) I aint got no money....LOL

But I know with all your help and advice I will be able to start taking some photo's to be proud of.

So thanks again guys for all your help, advice and time, it is very, very much appreciated, BUT there may be some more PM's to come....sorry boys.

I've never offered you advice personally Martin but it's nice to see guys like yourself and Phil appreciate the help and advice you have been given and most importantly heed the advice, hopefully one day you'll have the confidence and expertise to be in a position to offer advice yourself.

Your very welcome Martin, even if i wasn't much help

I think there have been more sports togging PM's flying around today than ever before, i didnt even get any work done :D

My inbox is cleared :p But have another

Cheers Phil, so space for another 50....LOL

We are not alone!

I hope so Graham, more people to interrogate....

Thanks Gary, I did look to PM you but there is no link there. I really do appreciate the help and advice you guys give and sometimes I think I am making a nuisance of myself by Pm'ing people 2, 3, or 4 times.

Cheers Andy, yes your advice was helpful and its now down to me to put everybody's advice into practice.

No amount of PMs are good enough if the advice you're getting is helping you learn.

I've not PM'd anyone about my photos, but I'm always willing to listen to criticisms and advice.

there are others on here more qualified than me to offer advice, but feel free to ask and i'll help if i can

Thanks guys, I do appreciate you all taking the time to read and reply to the thread.

I had some fantastic news this morning. I went to Southend Rugby Club last weekend and joined the club photographer for some experience in sports photography. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I emailed the club's Press/Media officer to ask if he wouldn't mind me coming along to the next couple of home matches for a bit more experience.

He emailed me back this morning......:D :D

Hi Martin,

As you know we presently have Jon as our club photographer if he is OK with you joining him for experience I can't see a problem. It might be useful when Jon can't make some games for him to have a backup.

I have copied in our President, Dick Collie, for his final permission and to keep him upto date.

Hope to see you soon, make yourself known to me, if you would. I run the club website where I publish albums of match photo's each week.

Regards

Alan

I still can't believe it, so expect a LOT MORE pm's guys...

Excellent stuff!!

I have covered a game at Southend Rugby Club and have met Jon, nice fella. The club has a good setup and dont forget that they will have several teams that you could cover, so if the first team is away, there will probably still be a game going on at the club.

I started out as the club tog for my local football team and thanks to the advice from people on here and some (a lot) of luck i now shoot with an agency

Thanks James, I feel like I've won the lottery. I'm walking around like I got a coathanger stuck in my mouth..:D .

I know the club very well because my brother played for them from the age of 14/15 and is still a member there, so he's been involved with the club for about 35 years...the old git....'ang on I'm 8 years older than him, perhaps I should rephrase that last comment....

Will now have to get myself some wet weather gear for all that rain, snow, cold winds....oh well.

First foot on the ladder and now moving to the second. Wet weather gear and winters coming, what was those lens questions again, especially about f2.8?

Yeah OK Graham, dont rub it in....

It certainly has me thinking about what equipment I have got to start saving up and looking out for.

Brrrrr all that talk about wet weather is making me thankful I got into basketball

Good luck (and to Philip in the other thread)

Maybe one day i'll put on my long johns and try an outdoor shoot :D

Phil.

Phil.

Thanks Phil much appreciated, AH Long Johns, I knew there was something I needed to get....:D

Good luck Martin. You will learn load by going to shoot for a local club, like I am doing with Farsley. Also the guys on here have a wealth of knowledge so make sure you pick their brains :D

By the way, i'd make the wet weather gear a priority. It's no fun sat on the touchline freezing your bum off:gag:

Thanks Phil and good luck to you as well. I know the club well because my brother has played for them since he was around 14/15, so I also know some of the other players. Yes the guys on here are an exceptional bunch of lads and I have nothing but admiration for them. As for the wet weather gear I wasn't thinking about me but the camera.....

Just an update, I have got my hands on a Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 lens, so thanks again guys.

Now I'm bleedin' skint, thanks.

Cheers Andy, so am I :)
