Quality cameras the seller is prepared to vouch for go for a lot more than run of the mill stuff. You can buy a working Nikon F2 for sixty quid, or five times that depending on provenance and cosmetics.
I agree with Liam, somewhere between seventy and eight five probably, possibly a little more.

still there at £41 ....anyone want a Canon A1+ 50mm lens ..bargain I think.?

I have to say, the T90 does look kind of interesting - to me it seems a bit like a manual focus EOS body for the FD lenses. As someone that finds himself regularly torn as to "shall I use the A-1 or the EOS-3" it'd probably leave me paralysed with indecision though!

The T90 is the next generation up from the A1, how can anyone consider a A1 if it's going for the same price as a T90...I'll never understand.

I aquired an A-1 for purely sentimental reasons - I had a AE-1, but always wanted a A-1 and couldn't afford one. The one I picked up (in exchange for 6 framed a4 prints - a cost to me of about £12) is fairly spot on, no sign of the dreaded cough, and looks and works fine. It's not ever going to be my main weapon of choice - it gets enough use to not seize up, and if it does start wheezeing I'll get it serviced I suppose. I can see how the T90 is a intrinsically better camera body - more solid, avoids the design faults that the A1 had (while coming up with a couple of its own iirc) and is a obvious transition design between the A-series stuff and the EOS's. My problem would be though, that it's not as good a camera body as the EOS-3, and given that I've got better EF glass than I have FD, it'd still be a second string shooter. And as decent T90's with the internal battery replacement done and no traces of sticky shutter syndrome come in at a price approaching a second EOS-3 body, all things considered i'll probably opt for another EOS-3 :)

I've never owned [or seen] a T90 but when i pick up my Canon A1 - I'm holding *history* and it feels good

my A1 has also been with me halfway round the world, and feels like a good friend, so guessing that money is not the deciding factor.....

a recent similar feeling when i got a Nikon F3 - it feels like a "real* film camera...

It is, but just try an F2! The last of the completely manual/mechanical F series.

Have you tried to get a T90 serviced or repaired ?
Unless things have changed it,s extremely difficult there was one company that was buying up old and broken T90s for spares but not sure if they are still going ?

I own the full range of A series cameras 6 in all with various lenses and accessories. ( A bit of a collector :) ) But the family and friends just reckon I,m a hoarder l:cuckoo: :bang::bang:
As good as the T90 was in it,s day I don't see it personally as such a desirable/collectable camera.
I guess a lot of A series users aspired to owning a A1 I always preferred it to my T90.

Don't get me wrong, if I see a A-1 going for peanuts I'll get it to use, but although I have favourites and I might be odd in that I have no feelings for my cameras going back 50 years and if they stop working they get thrown away rather than spend money on them (well except the meduim format ones I bought new).

Pretty much where I am, although I had an AV-1 not an AE-1. I came late to autofocus - only when I bought a 300D in 2004 and the EOS 3 was purchased to make use of the better EF lenses I had acquired by the time I upgraded to a 5D a couple of years later.

 YOU came late to autofocus... my first AF SLR was the 450D I bought christmas 2008. I have access to a bunch of nice glass for the EOS-3 (along with a couple of well used spare bodies should I need 'em) but I suppose eventually I should get around to purchasing my own. Problem is, that stuff with the L on is not cheap, even the prices of previous generation kit i've access to makes me wince.

You've got me there :)

One thing I really do appreciate about A-series bodies compared with the T90 and EOS cameras is that they're really quite compact by modern standards. I can sling the A-1 and three primes into quite a small bag. I took it out for a foray into London on the Open House weekend with my three year old son last week in preference to the 5D for this reason alone.

Even the smaller EF lenses and bodies (the T90 comes under this bracket) are quite large with their motors and batteries to power them.

excuse my ignorance but what does "coughing" relate to in this context?

Horrible noise from the shutter damper box. Sounds just like a 40 Senior Service a day cough. It's probably the main drawback with the Canon A-1, tbh.

I looked up the solution to this cough. It appeared to involve bending a hypodermic needle, pushing it through a tiny hole and 'feeling' for the gears. Mine's staying in a drawer till an enterprising type makes new mirror bearings.
