Yes
(not played with cam in a while)last few days ive tried to shoot but ive recently broken my hand and cant keep it steady, i have no inspiration or drive and i cant seem to get the results i want at all im thinking that i might just sell up and give up on it. i feel like ive gone backwards and its not worth bothering with anymore

Could you use a tripod and a remote shutter release for a while?

Keep your chin up...why not borrow a tripod off someone and do some landscape stuff. at least you can do some photos then :)

Hey Jade, chin up!

I know you're only a Canon shooter and therefore no great loss to the community (seriously only joking here ) but stick with it and the inspiration/desire will return ~ once a tog, always a tog :D

We've got a young woman in our camera club with an arm amputated above the elbow and she can do it; you just need to persevere for a while

I'm the same at moment Jade absolutely no interest in getting out with the camera but I know that will change in time. So dont give up and just wait till your hand is better you might find the frustration will go then :)

One day your up the next your down, swings and roundabouts, patience dear.

Nooooooo, dont sell up. It will be your biggest regret.
I know how it is to struggle with the camera, had to sell my D80 + kit and go for a GF1 due to it being heavy to hold.
As mentioned blag a tripod of someone and have fun shooting scenes or as ive been doing recently playing with HDR.
Ive been doing a 365 and nearly jacked it in a couple of weeks ago due to too much pain in my arm/lack of inspiration etc etc. But i dug out the cheap and nasty 20 yr old tripod(wish i hadnt sold my 055Pro but it would be way to heavy for me now) and started using that for shots.

Think every one goes through a bad patch, mines been the last year to 18 months and slowly coming out of it now after getting confirmation that i have MS(can now get on and try and put things into order).

Might be worth getting a monopod -they offer support and stability without all the hassle of a tripod.
Pretty cheap too.

I have a couple or so tripods, but only used them in the hides (birds)
But recently bit the bullet and started taking them to the Lake District for landscape.
OK,even the lightest ones are a nuisance to carry, but I am so pleased I have made the effort as it is a different ball game now.

I take the time to compose properly (for me that is ) and use timer or remote so all the pod shots are sharp.
Take the time ,it has given me a new lease of life.:D

See, my biggest issue EVER was that tripods are a PITB - I hated them, refused to use them and generally discarded them without a second thought. Then I tried one in the house, eventually ventured outside and left it in the case cursing the damn thing and moved on to setting it up and found that it is probably the most useful piece of kit bar the body and lens that I own!!!

Jade, sometimes the joy in going backwards is that you know the steps to take to go forwards - rather than floundering in the dark, you can at least see the light at the end of the tunnel, IYKWIM. Best of luck and I hope you don't make a rash 'sell' decision. :)

I agree with what has been said.
I often find my motivation lost for weeks at a time, then ill go somewhere interesting & take a good picture and it comes back again.
I get bored of my own pictures very quickly and feel the need to take something as good as the last good picture. when I dont get it, thats when the motivation slips.
I imagine this is typical for most photographers.
The problem is as you produce better pictures, you have your own higher standards to live up to.

thanks guys, im back at hospital tomorrow as hands getting worse so i dont know when camera will next be out to play but now ive calmed down i wont be selling it

Thanks

Good luck in hospital and get well soon!

Remember, even if your not able to take photographs at that moment, your eyes can i.e. watch out for interesting things to return to; make notes, plan your angles etc. It's all part of what you are going to continue doing

The very best to you

:agree:

don't give up, think of this as a minor setback.

I've had days where i've gone out with the camera, full intentions of taking pics and....... Came back with nothing, the camera didn't even come out of the bag

Another day out with the camera and come back with a card full of pics

as already been said it's swings and roundabouts

dont sell your stuff...it will be your reward for the physio and healing
best of luck

Don't open your mouth when there's nothing to say. Don't open your shutter when there's nothing to shoot.

Just go somewhere different, a change of scenery. Don't have your camera around your neck, but slung away over your back housed away in it's bag. Walk until you see something that you feel absolutely needs to be photographed. Then go nuts. :D

That's how you get your mojo back. Foot off the accelerator, let it slide, smoothly now, feel the groove, don't push or pull. It's not just you that needs to fit into place, but everything along with it.
