I am aware that if I upload photos to Facebook, I automatically grant the distribution rights on my pictures, my grievance with this is that if anyone should make any money out of my photos, I want it to be me. My question is if I post a link to my Flickr account using the Flickr share function, does this still grant Facebook the distribution rights?

Thanks for your help.

What money could be made from images posted on Facebook? I mean, the compression images go through makes them pretty unusable for print (of any quality) anyway.

What do you think the facebook distribution rights are there for?

Hundreds of thousands of images are posted to facebook every day. Paranoid people believe that FB hire people to watch through those images looking for stuff they can redistribute for cash. It's b 0 II 0xx. They have those rights so that FB and their partners can use random screenshots in their self promotion. You have given them permission to do that and little more.

It just covers them when people share your images. You agreed to this when you signed up to FaceBook.

They make enough money already without wasting time reselling our images for a few pennies.

Steve.

Bethy, images can be used digitally to make money i.e.in advertising.

I thought you still owned the image on FB it is just that you can't hold FB responsible for anyone else grabbing that image an running with it.

I squeeze images and load low res images just in case

Thanks everyone for the input, as alway Phil is the voice of reason and makes a good point. I guess it is a bit of paranoia. As you say Peter you do still own the image. Normally anything I upload to FB is at low res, however as I use Flickr to host my images for here they tend to be a higher resolution.

Posting a link on Facebook doesn't give Facebook the right to do anything besides display that link (which is what you've asked them to do). Any agreement regarding photos is irrelevant, as you aren't posting photos.

If you do post a photo, then you give them the right to show people that photo, because otherwise, how would they show people the photo you just posted...

Mine arnt being compressed...... maybe if you post them too big to be displayed then they get compressed.. but upload a 1000px picture and it looks as good as anywhere.. and you can print a 6x4 perfectly.... The answer is ugly watermark or give it up to all and sundry..

Or, in my case, the answer is ugly photo. No-one's ever used any of my photos because they're rubbish (like most photos on Facebook).
