Hi everyone,

My first post and, looking through the threads, looking forward to many more. I recently bought my first DSLR NIKON D60 and am looking forward to using it and learning the ins and outs.

After reading a bit recently I went out to see if I can 'think like a tog', composition wise and found it much harder than I imagined. Once I got home and analysed my photos my confidence shrunk and I cannot decide whether there might be enough ability to do a good job no matter how many posts I read:thinking:, especially as I only have the kit lens and no other bits of equipment to play with.

Wonder if you could throw some opinions my way:help:. Thank you!

just working out how to post up these links!?!

Hi and welcome to TP.

First of all, dont feel disappointed that your enthusiasm outweighs your current skill level. It's early days yet and its a long but very enjoyable learning curve. The important thing is that you have the enthusiasm to go out there are practice taking pictures. It is never truer than here that practice makes steps along the road to becoming perfect. Get used to your current kit, practice, experiment, make mistakes, practice, post on here and get good C&C, practice, practice and practice some more

If these are among your first shots then it shows you are thinking about your photography. The first looks good in black and white with the moody clouds giving it a good feel. All I can say to improve is to sharpen a little less in PP as there is just a hint of halo around the edges of the building.

The second one is a good composition as it leads the eye nicely in to the image.

A great start IMHO

Reading about photography will certainly help you but there is nothing better than just getting out there and doing it and learning from your experiences. Don't worry about feeling inferiour as a new photographer, we were all there at some point. If you are keen and willing to learn then your photos will improve very quickly. I can't actually see the 2 you have posted because I'm in work and they are blocked.

Have you considered joining your local camera club? I joined mine last year and I have learnt soooo much from it. They are very hit and miss as to whether they are good ones with welcoming members but it's worth a shot. Now is a good time to join as they often run the same as school years from Sept to May/June.

Welcome to the forum!!

Thanks guys, what a friendly bunch:)

Thanks for the local photo club suggestion, in fact I had been considering giving the Bradford one a go - it starts again next week. Anyone know if any members lurk on here??

Hello! I'm new here too, not been taking 'proper' photos long and am also lacking in kit although I'm working on it! I love the first shot you've posted, especially. I'm thinking about joining a club too, possibly one I've just spotted in Leeds.

Hey, which is the one you are looking at in Leeds? I live in Leeds and looked at the Bradford one as their web looked a bit more welcoming - where about in Leeds are you :), oh by the way cheers for the comments!!!!
