Spotted this on ebay, the guy seems to be a seller as i've seen about 5 of these over the last week or so.

How come the price is so reasonable? They've all been going for around £500.

He say's it's just the body, as the kit lens has been removed. So are we guessing he's bought these as a joblot of 40D + kit lens cameras, and then split them all up to make some extra money like that?

That is pretty much what you can pick them up for if you shop around. There's been a couple sold here lately which went for a bit less, although used, but very low shutter count.

I read somewhere that the cost of photography gear has fallen by 21% in the last year, and that's rrp, not discounted prices. It makes sense to see those cuts filter through the sales channels.

So would you say it'd be safe to buy off someone like that?

Obviously, I know nothing online is 100% safe, but if i'm shelling out a decent amount of money I'd like to know where I stand if there is any problems down the line, as i'm sure anyone would.

It sounds like an imported Camera (but same specs to a UK model).
The warranty is only 90 Days provided by the seller not Canon.

Thanks for that mate, confirmed what I thought about them being imported.

Will do fella. Cheers.

these are importers of camera gear which I have bought from:
adani505 - the best
123fstop - good

Kerso is only 50 squid more, and you know what you're getting! Not worth the risk I'd say!!!

That grey import sold for £494.75

I bought my 40D UK spec off the high street about two months ago for £499 (after cashback).

With prices so close, I can't see the point of buying grey imports

PS: mine was cheaper actually, because I didn't have to pay P&P or import tax plus I have a 12 month warranty and not 90 days..........

Can't say I can see what the difference is

If Digigood and Kerso both source their stuff from the US surely the same caveats apply to both sellers?

I'm not sure I'd buy a gray body from anyone, especially if the saving is only £50-100. A lot of the gray stuff on Ebay is the same price as Jessops and the end of the day you don't have a UK spec camera....

Can't really see a risk?

1/ Three month guarantee instead of twelve months.
2/ Might have to go abroad for repairs instead of your local high street.
3/ Lower resale value.

When we bought our two 40Ds, we just didn't think it was worth the risk for the few quid you save.

The three month guarantee would itself scare me off.

Could they possibly be reconditioned units? Just a thought.

Cheers, Mark

Assuming these are not recon units (which I doubt they are) and just gray imports from the US, why do they only have a 3 months seller warranty, whereas Kerso's seem to come with UK-serviceable Canon warranties

US and UK models are not always the same spec internally. For example, my 300d is actually a US rebel, the filter over the sensor is a different size and thickness to the one on UK versions.

Gunna be either buying from a shop in the UK, or buying a second hand, mint condition body.
