Yes
If I am browsing around on e bay and a lens says ''nikon fit'' will that lens then fit on any nikon camera?:)

So [and dont laugh cause i am thick:gag:] do all nikon cameras have the same mount

ie 52mm:nuts:

thank you to tp for all your patience with me.

not sure if all lens with work with all bodies but the 52mm refers to the filter size to cover the front element and has nothing to do with the mounting to the body

AH SO IF IT SAYS NIKON MOUNT IT MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT FIT.

SO HOW DO I KNOW IF IT DOES??? when buying on ebay.

If it says nikon fit then it will fit(unless it is really old). the only thing you will have to watch for is the focusing motor. i think you said you had the d40, which doesnt have an internal focusing motor so if you want autofocus then you need a lens with autofocus, im sure a fellow nikonite will be along to tell you what code you need in the name

ive got a D80 so when im looking for a lens i know i can use the AFS, D, G, ect. but if you have a D40, D40X, D60, ect, then you have to beware because although these lens work on the latter cameras they wont work the auto focus apart from the AFS, but you can use the manual focus. it all depends on what camera you have.

Every Nikon SLR lens will physically fit on every Nikon SLR camera. However, whether or not it will work properly can be really complicated.

Your camera's manual should have a section where it spells out the small print of lens compatibility issues. In the manual for my D70 that section is two pages long, so it's not really practical to summarise it here.

The biggest thing to look out for is that if you have a D40, D40x or D60 then you will only be able to autofocus if you have a lens with AF-S in the name.
