Another colour developing question...

I got a digital one from Clas Olson. It was ten pounds. I sometimes have trouble seeing the numbers on this type so the digital one was an essential.

Well it seems to be better suited for a greenhouse thermometer to me..save your money. The important thing about dev is consistency, so if the thermometer you have is out and reading 37.5 instead of true 38 it doesn't matter as over time you will adjust your dev times to suit how you like your negs.

My old Kodak thermometer for B/W is very accurate as the range is from 55f to 75f...for colour negs I used to use a Paterson digital themometer

Unless you struggle to read the numbers like Nick, i'd stick with what you got ...or at least see how you go on with it before plunging for something better / different.

I only use a basic thermometer similar to the one in the link and get on ok with it......

Cool thanks guys, I'll have a go with this one before throwing more money at it.

That's similar to the one I use for C41 and E6 so I think you should be fine with that.

It's a good idea to have 2 thermometers as you're often wanting to test the temperature of different things at the same time, chemical in the bottle, water running out of the tap etc. So I'd say the only extra expenditure you need is to buy another one!
I'm not on commission with them, honest. :)

Thats a good idea, going to get a cool box as well. My sink isn't really very big so it would be helpful to have a large volume of water and be able to seal it while everything reaches equilibrium.

Right, another question. I got 6 bottles for diluting the two kits but just realised the E6 kit needs four bottles.

Are any of the baths stable enough to be stored in a coke bottle?

This is the Tetnal E6 ?

Despite what no doubt others will say do not take any chances with the Blix its a crap idea for starters and by far the most prone to going off.

The Stabilizer is probably the least critical and either of the developers can last a surprisingly long time.

Yeah Tetenal, I've got six bottles to go between the two kits. So I can either use four for the E6 and two (plus coke bottle) for the C41 or 3 for each plus a coke bottle for the E6

They tell me lots of people use the Tetanal as one shot and least wise that is the recomendation for Jobo tanks. I used to use it in a sink line dip dunk set up you could make the 5litre kit do 60 films but only if you used it within a couple of weeks the dev's last the Blix is hopeless and you will rapidly start getting precipitates and loss of activity.

The Fuji Hunt Pro6 chemistry is really much better but granted a lot more expensive to start off with.

Utter total total total plonker! Just failed at the first hurdle and made a total mess of mixing the bloody chemicals.

Filled a jug of warm water, measured out 350ml, measured out my 50ml of colour Dev and... Tipped it in the wrong bloody jug. Realising my mistake and being a bit annoyed I up ended the rest of the first solution into the other jug. Not realising I didn't know how much water I was starting with. So ruining the entire kit. Moral of the story if your wife is talking to her send her away when your working and if you make a mistake, step back and think before making things worse!

I'm so annoyed with my self!

Sorry to bump this but does any one know how many films the blix and stab in the tetnal kit will do?

I have done 6 rolls using the same blix solution so far... the stabilizer, well, I had bought a 5l E6 kit, and although you can measure out your developer and blix into 1l solutions, you can't do that with the stabilizer so I realised I then needed to make up 5l of stabilizer doh!.... so, I pour off 500ml at a time, and use the same stabilizer for both C41 and E6(not sure if you're meant to do it) , so, I only use that for about 4 rolls then ditch it.... but, I think tetenal does 12 rolls with a 1l solution.
Hope that helps....

I think my blix and stab have done 10 rolls or so, over a daft time period and they still seem ok.

I thought it reckoned 16, but I've read it'll do 20 with no issues.

I have heard that C41 will do more than the recommended amount, but E6 it says up to 12, but if people can get away with more than that , then yes, just as well go for it.... (y)

Cool thanks guys, The premix dev I'm buying to save my stupidity is rated for 12-16 films so looks like they're pretty well matched.
