Another camera recommendation post

I've got an xpro1 at the moment with a prime lens(35mmf2).
as much as i like my Fuji i keep thinking there must be something better out there..
My issues with Fuji are the following...

• While using the EVF and have the lens on manual focus, when half pressing the shutter release button i can't focus any more. The focus is "locked". The irony is that when i use an actual manual lens (nikon af with an adapter) i can do the same without having that problem. Which is caused by that stupid "focus by wire" thing .I can focus much faster and more accurately with my Nikon FM.
• OVF is such a joy to use but unfortunately autofocus sucks, it's unreliable. unless im shooting landscapes.
• body is a bit big, but other brands I've looked with that combo(50mm prime equivalent lens) nearly are the same size.

Xpro is my first mirrorless i used to be a dslr user but switched to mirrorless due to size and weight. I'm so used to a nice bright viewfinder and that's the only thing i really miss. It makes a massive difference when shooting fleeting moments.

what would you recommend?

I don't know if it is just me, but I am struggling to see what you are saying. In your issues with the Fuji, you mention an EVF and an OVF, does it have both? (of course not )
It seems as if the points in the sentence starting OVF are about another camera, not the Fuji,
May just be me, but I am sure I am not reading it as you intended.

Also, it might be worth saying what you are looking for, for example I might suggest a 4/3 sensor camera and some one else a full frame, but neither may suit your needs or budget.

Apart from the shutter half press "problem" what can't the Fuji do that you want it to do?

Oh yes it does and I used it regularly with my X-Pro2

Thanks, that makes a whole lot more sense now. I think the comment about the poor autofocus led me away too, as I thought Fuji's had good autofocus

I like a nice bright viewfinder as well, which the G9 has, and a good autofocus

Just looked at the specs of the two, and it looks like the X-Pro2 maybe a reasonable suggestion.
Seems a similar camera, but with much better performance, especially the focus

I have always liked the look of the Fujifilm X100S but don't know much about Fuji cameras.

I've just tried to replicate this focus locking issue with both my X-Pro1 and X-T2, it is the same as you describe but, and here's my question, why do you try to refocus with the shutter half pressed. The reason I ask is I have been a Fuji user since the X-Pro1 came out and on my X-T2s I always use manual focus on my landscapes but until today never noticed that issue. Basically I focus and frame then just fire the shutter. I don't understand why you would want to re-focus when pressing the shutter button.

Can you not set back button focus on the X-Pro1? I have my X-T2 set up for focus on either the back button or half shutter press in the AF modes, and just the back button in manual focus (set to activate once, not continuously). In manual focus, I can manually focus the lens whilst pressing the back button focus.

Hopefully, it will be something that you can fix in settings, if not an X-Pro2, should short it, as it will have the same settings as my X-T2.

I have always liked the look of the Fujifilm X100S but don't know much about Fuji cameras.

My favourite was the smaller X-E2, just wish it had ibis then it would have been perfect for me.

First of all thx for taking the time to reply gentlemen!
Apologies if I caused any confusion as English is not my mother language
Let me explain further..
My biggest issue is the viewfinder.
If I had the budget I would probably go for a Leica.
Even though xpro1's OVF is excellent, the autofocus makes it kind of unusable for situations like moving kids and people shots.
So in situations like the ones mentioned above I switch to the EVF in order to have more control over the focus (i can see what's in focus and what's not)
But I'm not liking that EVF too much and the fact that Fuji has focus-by-wire lenses make things a bit more award for me(For the reasons mentioned in the first post).

Yes, I do exactly the same, focus, and fire the shutter. Which is ok for landscapes or slow moving subjects.
But, when for example, I'm with people that keep changing position, or a todler, or a street shoot, fast moving subjects in my frame that won't stay still, I struggle a lot to get the shot I want.
With my Nikon FM I half-pressed the shutter, kept focusing manually (which is still so much easier to do with my film camera) and when the moment was right I got the shot I wanted.
I can't explain it any better but with the Nikon i got exactly the shot I wanted. With the x pro 1 I'm struggling to get those fleeting moments.
I find that half pressing the shutter and anticipating the moment works better for me, that half a second makes a difference.
The problem is im used to the viewfinder of my old FM and the way it works and anything less bothers me..
