Hi all,
So I use a 2 TB Nas as a backup device and also as a hub for my Sonos playbar. When I copied music to the nas I created a share called "music" and copied he itunes folder from laptop to Nas. This took forever ! However seems to work ok. Question is if I buy new songs from iTunes how do I update the nas without re-copying the whole iTunes folder again.presumably the new songs will only be on the laptop? I also use iTunes Match if that's any help?

Thanks Steve

If your default iTunes path is set correctly then they should go onto the Nas in a folder called something like purchased music. If I remember rightly, currently have 2 cats asleep on me so cannot check.

Thanks Neil, how would I check this?

Preferences....Advanced Preferences.

Look at the value in iTunes Media Folder - this should be somewhere on your NAS. Also make sure that "copy files to iTunes...." etc is checked. Note that the Sonos only polls this folder once a day to rebuild its search so if you add something to iTunes "today" it may not show up in a Sonos search until "tomorrow".

Also, there's a stupid STUPID bug in iTunes.

If your iTunes media folder is set to a NAS and that NAS isn't mounted when iTunes starts then, rather than behave like any sensible app and mounting the NAS, iTunes just silently creates a new media location on your local drive. Add in the fact that mounting a NAS at boot isn't as reliable or smooth as it should be and you'll see why I want to punch the person who coded this particular bit of nonsense on a weekly basis.

[Oh yeah, this is only on a Mac, probably. I can't see Apple hiring two people that stupid. Also, Mac networking never really works like you'd expect. Sigh.......]
