I recently built a 3D printed tricopter designed around the Naze32 fun fly flight controller.

I used Autodesk Fusion 360 to draw up the frame and its other components like the motor mounts and yaw mech, then used makerware to create the Gcode output and finally my CTC 3D printer finished the job.

The result is.... a purple tricopter.

A few more parts need to be fitted, then its ready to fly.

:-)

Thats pretty damned clever of you Em (y)

Very cleaver indeed  seeing stuff like this makes me feel so stupid as to be honest I wouldn't know where to start, luckily for me there are companies out there to build them and do all the hard work :P

Look forward to seeing it in operation, you must have heard of the drone racing?

I've seen drone racing, even watched a live stream of a race, however its not something that floats my boat TBH, I'm more into freestyle aerobatics and aerial photography/video.

This is not the drone you are looking for...

:)

I must confess I quite like the idea of a race, but will not be doing it with mine, though I am loving the camera on my DJI it opening up a whole new world of angles and the quality is pretty impressive, I've just ran a print off of my local church and it's wonderfully clear

I love that kind of stuff. With a bit of luck St Nicholas will bring me a 3D printer this December :)

Nicely done.

I only understood about 20% of what you actually said . . . but that is very cool indeed :D

No worries Sarah there was a few details I was a little vague with when I made the initial post and I didn't include the specs of the drone.

dejongj, Having a 3D is definitely worth it, probably the best money I've spent in a long time, but the printer is only half the story, the other part is the software on the computer, I use Autodesk fusion 360 for design.
Then it's just a matter of practicing and perfecting your printing technique.

:)

Part of it is for me, and other part is for my children as in school they use this now so much for design and technology.

I'm very impressed with what you've done so far. I've got one racing drone on order but will most likely have a go at making my own as well. You've inspired me to do that.

It's certainly the future (y)

I test flew it, however it didn't end well, the problem is in the tail mech, that I need to redesign.
The tail broke away after a crash, easy fix, the rest of the frame is okay, although the servo that drives the mech got knackered too, I'm using it as a dummy for my redesign.

My RD290 hexacopter is flying brillliantly, new props all round and it feels and sounds smooth :)

Interesting, I'm about to start a scratch build 450 class quadcopter, going to use aluminium for chassis and legs ,well that's the plan . Your route is waaay too clever for me lol
