Watched the SKY Arts TV documentary this morning about Annie Leibovtiz and in every section (except one) in the whole show she used a Canon 24-70mm F2.8 lens and I was a little surprised

I thought she would of been using MF camera's to some extent - I guess Canon would be pleased to see there gear getting some good advertizing

never really seen much of her work before but she has some pretty spectacular images

The 24-70 2.8 is a solid staple workhorse lens for thousands of togs around the world, both Canon and Nikon.
Why are you so surprised?
Good IQ, fast, flexible. Why do you think she would have been using MF? After all, kids move around a lot (unless they are velcroed into a flower pot !!)

I think the OP was referring to Medium Format rather than manual focus:) She probably uses both canon and medium format depending on the situation.

Yes I was referring to Medium Format
and I know all about the 24-70 as have owned one for the last 6 years I love it

my point was that the budgets of the shoots of these famous Togs is usually off the scale - and was somehow expecting to see her with a 60 grand camera

in one shoot she did have a MF Camera but pretty much everything else was with the zoom

I went to see an exhibition of her work once -ten quid to look at what essentially were a load of family snapshots :shake:

I'm shocked you went in the first place lol

Usually when I'm bored it just ends up adding pounds and inches, maybe I should try one of her exhibitions ;)

doubt she'd be using a 60 grand camera she's not exactly well known for being good with finances and has been bankrupt several times

Hmm was that a couple of years ago in London? I took a date there, we thought it was pretty good actually.

No, it was last year at the MCA in Sydney, probably the same exhibition though. Don't get me wrong, there were some good examples of her commercial work, the majority of were just family snapshots with no artistic merit whatsoever.

Ok some of her stuff was just really well judged IMO, not amazing technical photo but had real charm, not so posed to look at it.
