Using Animoto to create slideshows. Anyone know how to get the HiRes downloaded mp4 file to work correctly. If I try to play it in media player I get a pixellated picture. It seems to play ok in VLC media player.

I think that it is something to do with the resolution but I don't know how to convert it to something I can use.

The downloadable ISO file works OK when mounted onto a virtual drive and when burnt to a dvd and played on DVD player. What I want to be able to do is make my own DVD with multiple slideshows.

I dont use Animoto, but if the video will play ok in vlc and not media player then its more than likley a missing or problematic codex in windows. My guess is that Aminoto encodes in h.264 format, so try http://www.free-codecs.com/download/ffdshow.htm, this should get media player working. VLC uses its own embeded codex's hence it just works :)

Thanks kappa. I had thought that as well. I have tried a couple of different codec packs and followed a number of articles online about how to configure ffdshow to playback H.264 encoded files. None of this worked. Animoto helpline suggested that they played best in Quicktime but also that it could be a codec issue with WMP.

Strange thing is that if I import the file to Premiere Pro, create a new PAL Widescreen timeline and drag the file in, it plays correctly although not full screen. If I drag the mp4 file to the new timeline icon to create a comp with the same settings as the file it is pixellated.

From further research it seems there are a number of issues with WMP playing MP4 / H.264 encoded files. I will just have to market them as quicktime movies. It's all at an early stage at the moment so may find another option to using Animoto.
