For those who follow the "say Something" thread you might be aware Andy set myself and drodd a challenge, in that thread, to capture a bird in flight as sharp as possible. Here's one of my efforts...

Now where's Drodd when she's needed

Nice, you have chosen the largest UK bird so what about getting the smallest UK bird in flight next ;)

Wash your mouth out sir! You'll be giving the git ideas next! haha

I have some pics of a housemartin I watched flying to and from the nest with food for the 3 newborns. That was hard and difficult, and i'm not sure those pics are even worthy of putting here. Suffice to say I am not a wildlife photographer ;)

I'm here, I just haven't had time to chase birds

You will have to wait a bit longer for my pic.

D ;)

Typical woman, always late! :p

Well in the meantime I suppose I could post one of the housemartin pics instead. As I said earlier, these are fast little so and so's, and i'm very self critical of the image quality already. Anyone who has observed these birds will probably know they arrive with food for the young and depart again within a split second.

Not bad bud, wasn't expecting a swan but its a bird none the less, well done. Pretty sharp as well. Dont think I have seen a swan in flight before funnily enough. :)

what do you mean, pretty sharp? :bat: haha

Near me we have a place called Mistley, inundated with them. They often fly along various sections of the river just for fun.

So will you be partaking in your own challenge? ;)

You seem to have stripped the exif or was that so we dont know you used the automatic modes. :D

Just have to wait for dawns photo now. So maybe about December time.

What a good idea, I may just wait for some snow and the robins to get a pic

But then again, who knows I may just manage one before then :)

Ok, now I know we'll see a picture of a pig flying before we see Dawn's pic of a bird flying.

 is that your next challenge? :p

Doesn't need that thread, just let me know babes and I'm there for you ;)

Sorry I couldn't resist

I tried to make it fly but just wooden ;0)

that's flying at about the right speed for Drodd to capture in sharp focus though

p/o Heps! I may still impress you :D (I have my own style of flying and believe me it isn't wooden!)

wooden? nope, that's your acting. Which explains why you don't tread the boards...

Droddy, hurry up, should of set a deadline shouldn't I?

hold onto your rabbit ears Andy :p

P/O both of U!!!!!

 While we wait for Droddy to post her pic of ONE bird in flight i thought i'd up the stakes and post ONE pic of THREE birds in flight. How's that for exceeding a challenge? haha. What's neat about this shot is it shows all three of a swan's wing configuration in flight. Not often you get to capture this on one exposure. :)

Heps, you are such a show off!

You just shown us 3 seagulls swans with there backside pointing at the camera. :cuckoo:

EDIT: Well done on 2k posts.

Ok.....

Bearing in mind Heps has been doing this for many years (so his standards should be a lot higher )

My meager attempt at a bird in flight with the equipment I have, i.e., 18-55 kit lens (as opposed to Heps array of lenses - not that equipment should be anything to go by).....

Here is my impromptu attempt taken yesterday.....

So Heps, for now you probably take the cake, until I catch up with you (which shouldn't take as long as it did for you to get to where you are now)

Look again young man.. They are swans. the wing tips give it away... if you think they're seagulls I hope to god you never get crapped on by one of them.

ps: Yippeee... 2k posts, and it marked the start of me calling Dawn Droddy! What a waste... maybe... :gag:

Thst's a mighty small and blurry photo Droddy. Any chance we can see a 100% crop? Of course only a bad workwoman blames her tools.

and erm... i don't shoot birds often enough to be good at it, which clearly my shots do show. But then again...

Nice droddy, but it looks more like a painting than a photo, however its sharper than heps.

Thank goodness you don't shoot birds often enough, otherwise there wouldn't be any of us left around to carry on in the world. Although you seem to do a good enough job at it anyway, with or without your camera.

Get a life Heps! You are so stuck up your own 'A' you can't see the sunshine!

Thanks Andy, it was the best I could do in a short period of time. Considering I actually met the challenge in real time, even though it was a very impromptu shot yesterday (as opposed to Heps using a photo he took ages ago) I don't think I did too bad (although I realise I need a lot of practice and still have a lot to learn about taking photos of birds, not something I have a real interest in ..... but am always ready to learn something new).

Cheers

D :)

Why its so small though?

Why its so small though?

For Heps' benefit ..... he can only think and see 'small' (i.e., inside small boxes)
