Nice composition on the first shot.
Second shot is a good Idea on the theme, but the lighting could do with a little work to deal with those shadows I think. Perhaps using a bounce card might help fill in a little.

Don't have a bounce flash yet so reshot to try improve shadows

Hi Andy great start to your 52.

That first shot makes want to get my walking boots on. What an amazing location. Would a polarising filter have reduced the haze?

The re-shoot is loads better with the better lighting giving nice detail on the potato skins. And good lateral thnking on the theme of "new"

Thanks for the comments I'm looking forwards to the next challenge, should be out this evening as far as i'm aware

Hi there

Home brew...yum yum:)

I really like the shot ,works well & you caught the froth just right .
Not sure if the shadow adds to it or not but guess you'd need some different lighting ?

Look forward to seeing your next 48:thumbs:

Great take on the theme on "open". You've nicely caught that moment when you first crack a bottle open. Nice colours.

The shadows from the flash are a bit distracting and it looks a slightly soft to me.

Great shot mate... I nearly went for a beer bottle opening too... so glad I never now... would not wanted to have stood on your toes!

oooh
homebrew...
I used to use the pint bottles for mine (newcastle brown bottles worked a treat!)
Like the shot, It would imho be better if you caught the crown top flying (well, I know what I mean!!)

Hi, Andy:

#1, I'd prefer a wider shot, some more colour/contrast.. First thing I saw was that the water line is slightly out....minor point.
#2, a bit more depth would have helped and some natural light (which is one of my big faults!). I think, again, a wide shot with the potatoes on the right and front?
#3, now I like this one, you really captured the look in the left hand boy's face. I find a tad off the top helps. I wonder what a slightly longer shutter speed would have looked like?
#4, as I just said in another post with a bottle of pop, this was the one I was after doing, but I guess I was a bit slow (or you were much faster). For me, this one just lacks a bit of motion, I'd like to see the contents really spray out.

Looking forward to the rest of you 52.

Cheers.

i like your ideas mate
the potatoes are really cool second shot for me though
not so keen on last one but hey that only my thoughts! rest are great ! well took shot may i say

 Great idea for "open" and the timing was absolutely spot on. Well focused, well lit and lovely colours.
Not sure that the background and shadow is helping it though. I think I would have liked to see this with a more natural background - a table top, a couple of glasses . . . shallow DoF to throw it all slightly out of focus.

This week was a "hard" one pardon the pun I thought of going with Nails and found some nice rust and bent ones in an old fence post while out walking dog but when I got home the pics were not that good the focus was out, so went with this pic of one of my wifes diamonds "rock hard"

Hi Andy,

Don't know how I've missed your thread before - sorry about that!

Some great ideas here for your 52 and some good photos;
1 (Accommodation) Love the shot, great atmosphere but the wonky water line lets it down a little.
2 (New) Second shot is loads better but is a little dark. Try diffusing your flash with tissue paper/rizlas etc just to take the harshness out of it.
3 (Style) Love it, real fun shot with good colours, contrast and composition
4 (Open) Clever take and I bet it went down well. You nailed the focus however my only crit would be the lighting is still a touch harsh for me
5 (Hard) Some good thinking there, afterall there is nowt arder then diamonds. Unfortunately the focus is very soft. Without knowing what glass you were using I would say you were probably inside the minimum focal length. I would have liked to have seen a greater DOF as well to put a bit of sparkle and depth into the diamond, maybe by setting it somewhere and taking a longer exposure stopped down a bit. You can also get some really cool refractions then with an LED torch.

Best of luck with the rest of the 52. Some lovely creative ideas here and good, well balanced shots.

+100 cool points for being a doors fan.

Unfortunately I agree with Caleb in that the diamond shot is slightly soft. Did you use a tripod? I would have tried it with a darker background.
Maybe worth a retake if you can prise it from your wife's finger again.

Didn't use my tripod and was short of lights at the time but have bought a light tent with different backgrounds and some more lighting so hopefully my macro work will start to improve over next few weeks.

Brave man! Very well lit and nice and sharp. And I see you used a tripod this week. :)

Andy,

1st time I have looked at you pics.

#1 Nice shot, maybe the colours could be more vibrant? no doubt difficult if there was flat light.
#2 Like the idea, 2nd attempt better with regard to shadows, but might need to look at white Balance
#3 My favourite shot, great capture, maybe clone out the pylon in the backgound?
#4 Nice idea, well executed. I think the shadow actually adds to the picture
#5 Focus looks a bit soft on this
#6 Brave man :D Did you have to actually open the bag? The wife will probably be dusting for prints :D

Hi Andy, not seen your pics before. Good start to your 52

Week 1 - really love this pic, makes you want to go there and try similar shots. Maybe straighten the shore line, apart from that v nice.

Week 2 - the re-shoot definitely the better of the two

Week 3 - really nice shot and good DOF

Week 4 - excellent take on the theme. Crisp and clear and good colours

Week 5 - like the thinking behind the shot just too soft for me. Maybe one to re-visit later.

Week 6 - really like this and the take on the theme. Certainly a braver man than me

Hi Andy...

I loved photo 6... clutter... I dont think that bag looks too bad... I've seen worse but defo not brave enough to shoot it and post it on here! Loved the take on the theme though. Great angle on the shot too...

Photo 5... Hard... defo know what you where trying to do... you just need more work and I think you know what you need to do from comments above!

Great work though...

Mark

Am I the only one wondering why she has a ready meal in her handbag?
Although... seeing the NHS ID it may make more sense...
let me guess...
Taken just before she went on an OOH shift?

I'm guessing that since she works for the NHS that is the meal she took with her on her last shift and didn't get time to eat so just left in the bag with high hopes for the next shift.

Cough, first thing I thought was that they were stockings...

Nice idea, it looks a bit noisy and I'd like to see the left hand side light smoke removed to emphasis the main smoke.

Cheers and how quick were you at getting week 7 up!!

Hi Andy, very quick off the mark this week mate.

Think you have a made 6 good weeks already, the homebrew is my fav.
Never attempted smoke pictures neither, but i really like this. Personally i like the smoke on the left hand side, it sort of leads you into the main body of the pic.
Well done

well your quick with this one! good shot
this weeks theme as got me :bang::bang:

I thought I was seeing things when I spotted "delicate" up here already
Amazingly quick off the mark, but I really love the interpretation.

For a first attempt at smoke shots it's come out extremely well. I know that these aren't as easy as they look.
As already said, the background is a touch on the noisy side - it could do with some noise reduction run on it for my taste. The shapes and textures in the smoke are beautiful though

p.s. if you think your wife's bag is cluttered you should look at mine

Well done Andy :)

Good effort for a first attempt! Haven't tried them myself yet, but I bet they aren't as easy as they look.....colours are great, but maybe the DOF is a little narrow and theres a little noise present, but it's a great image and an excellent take on the theme
