andybod's 2010 52 single finally added

the Porcshe is excellent, clearly speed... Is that you driving you're car or did you let some loony loose with it ? Rather you than me  ...

The other two are so close, as you say...

That's a bit of a dust issue there, and it's on the sensor I think (sorry)... Looking at the dust... the middle two were stopped down more, the first not as much, and the last one was more wide open.

Thanks for the advice Ill have a look at the sensor when I get home and no it's not me driving ,my mate coley I'd rather let him drive than sit passenger next to him again

Hi Andy. Nice to see someone on here from my neck o'the woods. Love the 1st street / light trails shot and would agree that the porker is the best speedy shot. Nice one. It certainly looks like it was blinkin freezing at the bedford autodrome, but great place to thrash your motor around!

Cheers, Rob

not really up on cars.. wonder how my micra would handle around that track ;)

certainly bang on theme.. prefer the one you chose.. like the wide crop and nice lines

Really like the shot of the Porsche.

The framing is perfect for me with just the right amount of space to the RHS.

Dan

thanks for the comments it's encouraging to get some good comments thanks, i'll now try and catch up with what the rest of you are doing and see if i can get some insperation for this weeks theme

week 6 present, after suggesting my wife lets me photograph her in her undies for my valentines day present and being told not to get me hopes up i have struggled to find some inspiration for this weeks theme so i may re do this one when i get time but for now i present to you all ,a penny past and present ,or our monarchy past and present you decide

things i have learnt this week
1 the wifey aint keen on me taking photo's of her
2 suggesting i take photo's of her mates in a state of undress don't go down well either
3 still got ***** the size of cow pats on my sensor (cleaning wipes ordered:thumbs:)
4 it's almost impossible to photograph a spinning coin as it darts across the work surfaces (a failed idea)

so hear it is week 6 present

Hi,

Just had a read through the whole thread. Trying to catch up on threads I've not visited at all in the last 6 weeks.

Poetry really stands out for me. A simple shot, yet well taken. The composition is quite pleasing to look at. I like the specs and the spirits as well as the pencils. The whole arrangement works here.

I also like the light trails in street. For sure, your 1st shot was the winner for me. Nice to see light trails high up (lorries & busses?).

Present is a nice shot too. Well lit but as Andy above said, the blobs need to go!!

Ian.

Hi Andy,

Another great idea for present . . . I'm sure I've got some of those old pennies lying around somewhere. I'll have to dig them out because they definitely make an interesting subject.

Shame that the spinning coins didn't work out, but that sounds almost impossible to me and what you've ended up with has worked well.
Good colours and nice composition. It would be nice to have got a bit more space in the bottom of the frame though so that you could have fitted all of the reflection in.

Your lessons learnt made me laugh too, especially the second one

Missed your speed shots. I know nothing about motorsports, but those look to have come out well to me. Sounds like it was a good day out too.

p.s. Good luck with your sensor cleaning - that's a bit more than just a speck that you seem to have there :(

It's a great idea and has worked well... you need to hit it with the clone tool though... As for the lessons learned... I didn't even bother to ask... I can appreciate your attempt though...

Looking forward to seeing week's 7 and 8 when they're posted. :)

just a quick update i now know what i will be going for on people and mechanical just need to find time to collect my camera as it has gone on loan to a friend for a few days and get me ass moving and play catch up i have been trying not to look at to many other ideas i'll play catch up shortly

at last time to play catch up ,first the week i have been dreading people i'm still not confident enough to get out and really start trying some street photography so i decided to visit the national memorial arboretum http://www.thenma.org.uk/ and dedicate the people theme to those that have payed the ultimate price for serving there country and also fitting this week as the basra memorial wall was opened so the first couple of pictures are of the memorial wall the next couple are from the main memorial wall ,the arboretum is worth a visit around 160 acres of land set aside as a memorial.

mechanical should have been an easy week i have been servicing a mates car and replacing the timing belt but just felt that would be a little easy so took a ride round and found this a mechanical press so thought it fit the theme nicely ,

130310%20032.JPG

catch up coming thick and fast now week 9 play and i give you our dog arthur playing silly bu**er with his toys, sounds easy but the dogs that thick i doesn't understand basic commands like sit or stay so trying to get it where you want it is almost impossible and the fact it's always got a rocket shoved up its arse make it even harder but quite happy with the outcome

not quite as sharp as i would have hoped but like it anyway

i'll now go away and think what i can come up with for chemistry and not let myself get behind again,i'll now go have a look at what you lot have been doing over the last few weeks

I really like your 2nd speed shot Andy :) and present is very nice too...lovely and sharp and nice idea. Sweet play shots....I think the second one wins it for me for that wonderful expression, well caught!

love the second puppy shot !! mechanical fits the theme well

love the second puppy shot !! mechanical fits the theme well

Thanks for the comments thought I would just mention the puppy had his sixth birthday in february still acts like a 10 week old pup though

Hi Andy, good to see you back.

Present -Great detail!

People - Spooky mate! I had exactly the same thought and ended up with a shot of the names on one of the walls. It is a very sombering and thoughtful place to visit. And the close up shot of the female statue.................I swear I took the same as well. Great minds and all that:D

Play - Your 1st Arthur shot is the one for me. The look in his face in just "GRRRRRRRR" makes you want to just grab his play and shake it. Nice one.

Cheers, Rob

Andy, well done on catching up.

People... I think a couple of the shots fit the theme nicely... The second and fourth. Although the last is my favourite. They are all good though.

Mechanical. I like the angle, and it's well lit, just not sure on the overbright sky behind... given the angles etc, I'm not sure there's much you could have done about it though.

Play, all good, but I like the last one... "Come on, stop watching the cars and come play ball!!"... very good.

 Welcome back Andy !!!!

People : A very poignant take on the theme, and there's something eyecatching in all of these. My favourite is the last one with all the statues in frame. I wonder if a bit of a contrast boost would give just a bit more definition to the inscription. It's very well composed though, and one that I want to keep looking at.

Mechanical : I don't quite understand what it is, but I like it
Good angle, and I actually think that the bright sky adds something to it. It would be good if you could lose that little bit of building creeping in at the top left.

Play : The puppy that isn't a puppy
 Arthur is absolutely gorgeous and I hope you get the chance to feature him again in your 52.
Emotionally No.3 is by far my favourite . . . it just makes me go all goooey . . . awwwww!!!!!
But from a technical perspective I agree that it could be a bit sharper.

thanks for the comments sarah the arboretum where i took the people shots is a very somber and thought provoking place to visit i didnt get enough time to visit the hole site around 160 acres and many memorials around the site ,and as for arthur he may look cute and innocent, but he can be a pain in the ass sometimes i would say free to a good home but the wifey would kill me it's her baby :cuckoo::cuckoo:

thanks rob i will take a look at what you came up with from the site still trying to catch up with how every body else has interpreted there themes ,as for the grrrr'ing from the dog thats about all he can do he's got half his teeth missing so wouldn't bite if he tried :D

still playing catch up here a little week 10 chemistry i had a few ideas for chemistry but thought i would keep it simple this week so i played in the kitchen for a bit and came up with a density tower there are 6 layers to this have a guess whats in there i am a little annoyed that the 3rd and 4th layers have mixed a little

chemistry%20014.JPG

off to play candid camera next thanks for looking

evening all time to update and to be honest i think this week has probably got to be one of the worst for me candid firstly i dont photograph people and second i dont photograph people unaware or on the spur of the moment so i have kind of cheated i have used a photo taken by my wife of me which is a big :nono::nono: i hate having to have my photo taken so i was probably giving naomi some verbal for taking this (yes i am only going to post one shot of myself and it'll probably be the last time you see me ) and to even things up a bit a proper candid photo of naomi a little tipsy after a night out taken off my old crappy nokia n95 but i do quite like it ,so go on then do your worst.

Chemistry... ah the immiscible liquids... A good take on the theme... the boundaries and colours work well in the shot. I'm gonna guess the bottom layer is an old, the white layer is milk... but that's about as far as it gets.

Candid... not sure the shot of you really counts, as you knew it was being taken... However, the shot of Naomi probably does. I can see why you like it, and it's come out very nicely for a phone. Nicely done.

That was taken on a phone !!!! ?

Like it, perhaps I should scrap my camera :(

Like the expression in the Candid portrait shot!

Anyway, from the last few weeks (and I'm playing amssive catchup here) the second dog shot is really really good. Really made me smile when I saw it.

Ian.

I'm absolutely fascinated by your chemistry shot - I can't stop looking at it and trying to work out what the layers are. (Please put me out of my misery before next week)
I'm guessing that there's a raw egg at the bottom and I think I can see milk and oil . . . but I'm struggling with the rest

As a demonstration of chemistry the composition with the glass works well - as an image I think I'd prefer it cropped tighter to lose the glass and make an abstract of the different layers.

Candid . . . not sure that the first is really on theme, but it's nice to put a face to a name.
The second is absolutely stunning quality for a phone. Nicely composed too

Hi Andy - I'm sorry I haven't dropped in on your thread before. :)

I'm finding it hard to choose a favourite between the first light trails shot, the fantastic phone shot of your very beautiful wife, and shots 1, 2 and 3 of Arthur. I hope your wife isn't offended if I choose Arthur - he's just sooooo cute.

Jean

hello again first off thanks for the comment regarding the last couple of weeks themes and sorry i haven't had chance to keep up to date with what you are all doing been really busy hoping to get a bit more free time to catch up a bit

just to put everybody (well you sarah at least ) out there misery chemistry consisted of bottoms up

1 golden syrup
2 marmite
3 worcestershire sauce
4 milk
5 olive oil
6 a drizzle of paprika to add some colour

thnaks for the comments on the image of the wifey had to get her whilst she was young and impressionable and before she realised any better too late now though shes stuck with

so to my next shot produce i have struggled to come up with something on this one but a bit of inspiration came to me as i was making myself something to eat (wifey's bu**ered off to australia for a month:thumbs:) so quite a simple shot i was hoping for something abit more but this will have to do for now

i give you fairtrade produce or a bag of sugar whichever you prefer

produce%20006.JPG

i'll clear off again now try and catch up on quad or reshoot which might involve the puppy that aint a puppy that you all seem to love or stinking smog as i know him

c&c welcome thanks for having a look

now just a quick one week 13 quarter of the way through the year already and this weeks theme shoot this came to me fairly quickly and no doubt there will be many interpretations of this, being as it's supposed to be spring i thought of tree shoots from the only tree in the garden not totally happy with this but think it's all i will get time to do :bang:

so that ladies and gentlemen brings me bang up to date for the first time in weeks, ill have a look what i missed now

Hi Andy - it sounds as though you've been busy, but you are absolutely right about Arthur - he's cuteness on legs (4, of course!)

In #3 there's a bit of a colour cast on my screen, but I love the expression. The others are adorable, and if the eye could be sorted out in #4, I think that would be my favourite one. Lots of quadness - 4 photos, 4 legs each.

I've skipped over Shoot, because I haven't done mine yet - and have no idea what to do either. Grrr.... :)

Jean

Andy, I'm afraid to say, that the produce shot really isn't doing much for me...

The quad of quadruped on the other hand... some wonderful shots there, love the expression, particular in 2... agree with Jean about the odd colour cast in the third one...

Shoot also appears to have a bit of a cast, but I like the idea (wish I'd thought of this), I like it

Hi Andy,

Been avoiding your catch up until I got my week 14 in.

First off, thanks for sharing the contents of your chemistry shot - I can actually see all of those things now

Produce is lacking something for me I'm afraid. I think it's just too tight a crop of a not particularly exciting object. Maybe a wider shot of the sugar bag with some baking ingredients or tea/coffee around it???

More than made up for by stinking smog Arthur in quad though.
 There's good reason we all love him - he is one of the cutest things I've ever seen
If you're not careful we're going to end up with an Arthur Fan Club on here.

In terms of pose and cute factor, I just love number 3 but the slight colour cast lets it down a bit and the focus looks to be on his nose rather than his eyes. For that reason I think number 2 is my favourite out of the set.

Shoot : Glad to see that somebody else had the same idea as me this week - and this has worked well.
Good detail and I like the diagonal composition. Like John said, there does seem to be a bit of an odd colour cast to it though.

Really like the Shoot theme. Nice to see a different take on the topic for the week.

Also like the shots of Arthur though I'm with Jean on the colour caste in the 3rd image.

Ian.
