Well done to Andy Murray after a difficult year he seems to be back to his best. He's overcome a couple of players that have got the better of him recently and he looked in imperious form today, especially after the first set. Whoever he faces in the final will not be looking forward to playing a resurgent Murray.

Good luck on Sunday Andy.

Completely agree.
No doubt the nay-sayers will be out in force here shortly though.

Oh look...too late.

I'm guessing he's currently British rather than Scottish.

He played great today, but his serve is still fragile. I'm not sure he can been Nole yet and Stan is a very tough cookie too. I hope it's fourth time lucky though.

Not really, but it was rather sly of the press to call him Scottish when he wasn't doing so well, but when he was doing great he was British. Lol

Only as sly as any other media/press.

BBC West Midlands news - if it's good news The Belfry is near Sutton Coldfield or near Birmingham, if it's bad news then The Belfry is in Warwickshire

Until he loses!!!

There have been things said but its great for British sport and tennis in particular. He will inspire a generation of kids to play.

Looks like he'll be playing Djokovic. I make it a 60/40 in favour of Djokovic match.

He will have to play very well to beat Djokovic.

Another point, why have we no other decent tennis players?

He will, but Nole had proven that he's beatable. I think if Andy had played him today I think he'd have beaten him.

We have Katie Swan in the junior final. Heather Watson has the tools to be a top ten player, as does Laura Robson.

And don't forget he beat Djokovic to win Wimbledon.

IIRC his (AM's) parents paid out about £40,000 for him to train abroad when he was younger, not many people can afford that sort of gamble.

BTW, my earlier post about him being British rather than Scottish at the moment was a poke at the press not him. AFAIC, we're all British regardless of which part of the UK we may have been born in. I'm a British mongrel with a portion of French (and Polish French at that!) lobbed into the mix (but I'm not aware of any Welsh in me.)

He did and he does have a chance, but Djokovic won't make the same mistakes two matches in a row. He'll be aggressive and fired up. Murray has a much better chance on grass and is the more skilful player, but Djokovic is just supreme. He's a very similar player to Andy in spirit, chasing down lost causes, and fitness, but a marginally better returner and server. Andy has to make 70% first serves to beat him. His second serve will be punished.

Completely agree...especially re the playing surface.
I tend to think he'll either mske a great game of it, collapse spectacularly.

Yeah, Nole is just so good on this court. I think it's the most fascinating matchup too. You're right - any of those results is possible.

815 AM Sunday on BBC 1. Should be quite a match. Only problem I am out on a stag night on Saturday....

Stay awake and keep drinking, it is the only way to get through all of it...

More seriously though, do the press really still do that Scottish/British thing, or is it just an urban myth now? I can't say as I have read loads of articles on him since his Wimbledon win, tennis not being my thing, but I don't recall noticing it in any I did read.

Murrey's returning is excellent at the moment and as good as anyone else. It will be difficult for him to beat Djokovik, who must be the favourite, but he can do it if he's at his best.

Yes, I absolutely agree. The key will be the serve. Djokovic returns at least as well as Andy, but serves better. Andy has a greater range of shots though.

I have no idea whether this idea was started by the andymurrayometer or if it was a real thing. Any reference to his Britishness / Scottishness I always imagine being said with tongue firmly in cheek!

And fat chance of me staying awake and drinking through, since settling down the past couple of years, if I make it to 1am that is a miracle, and 5 pints gets me well and truly sloshed!

Much like his "Anyone but England!" comment about a football match several years back, delivered very firmly tongue in cheek in the original interview then reported as a fairly vitriolic attack in the printed media.

Not looking good for him now, unfortunately.

11 out of the 12 last games. magnificent performance by djokovic, but what is happening to Murray, mental or fitness?

Ah well, he's Scottish after all:rolleyes:

Dunno, but Djokovic was simply a class above.

The person who polished Murray's platter should hang his head in shame!

It was covered in machine swirls, like he'd used a wire brush!

Three cracking sets, they are both such great defenders, but Djokovic clearly tougher today.

As some ex-footballer pointed out, these guys can out-fit those premiership windbags any day of the week. Even an unfit Andy Murray would leave most of them dead in the stamina stakes.

There's quite a few footballers run about 9km in a match, without regular rests. The surprisingly fit athletes are in f1.
