Android to Android transfering?

Hi all

As per the title, is there a recommended way to transfer all contacts, data, apps, Chrome bookmarks etc from one to the other

This is in regard to copying across everything from my Moto G (1st generation) to my (soon to arrive) Moto G5

TIA for any insights & user experiences of what works best to do this?

Most of it should be automagically backed up to your Google account then copied to the new phone when you sign in. Check Backup/restore under Settings to see what's set there. I'm going through the same process as the battery on my Nexus 5 is dying so I'm moving to a Huawei P8 Lite. I've got them both here with the P8 just on wi-fi; all my contacts and apps have copied across but I can't get my texts over at the moment. A little googling is required, I think.
 
^This^. I've had a couple of Motos and there is a moto app for moving everthing across but I've not had to use it because as long as you are caught up in the Google hegenomy (Drive, Play, backup, etc) everything and I mean everthing, even stuff you had forgotten about

Yes, I have Google drive so will check that out ana all being well will be sorted :)

I easily got everything across from my ancient 1st gen HTC Wildfire to a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, including all sorts of things I'd forgotten about, except my text messages. After some fruitless experiments I just gave up trying to get them across...

SMS backup and restore is what I used to back and restore the SMS
 
I bought a cheapo Chinese rugged phone off of the 'bay to replace my Sony Xperia.

Took the sim card out, put it in an adapter and popped in the new phone. Signed into my Google account and everything was where it should be.

Android is pretty much where Apple used to be when they were good ;)
 
Hmmmm! I was sure at some point I spotted a page on the phone that listed all the Google account backup apps etc but for the life of me cannot find it/them now.

Google Drive says nothing stored?

So a tad foxed ??? Yes, I have the new phone now but before I swap the SIM over later wanted to check again that all has indeed been backed up....................but where the heck do I look to confirm that it is 'there' and ready to restore. As Jonathan says it should be easy peasy but it would be good to know it is ready?

Oh, I found a Migrate app on the old phone?

For Chrome bookmarks - well it should "just work". Try signing in to Google on another computer and your bookmarks etc should be available. It will work the same on your phone.

Apps you will probably need to d/l from the Play store. But it remembers what you have bought.
 
Update :)

Well all went well all apps restored and SMS & phone history.

The one thing not included in this was email settings and emails:-

Now on my old phone has Gmail but I was using another email client which I think was on it already........but not sure. On this new G5 all I can see is Gmail, so though I realise I will have start from scratch and set the other email accounts up but which email client to use???

On my G5 for the other emails I am using Aquamail. Gmail is the only one using the built in gmail app. I want to keep them separate.

There are a number of different mail apps but this is the one I liked the best after trying a few.

In my initial looking at what was around I did note Aquamail and Bluemail as getting good reviews.

A quick question, does Aqua work with Pop3 ?
 
They've rolled the functions of the old Mail app into the Gmail app, which now also supports third party email accounts (POP3, IMAP and Exchange). You can switch between accounts within the app, or long-press the icon to bring up a list of accounts before it launches. By default, it also syncs Exchange contacts and calendars with your Google account, which may or may not be what you want, but this can be switched off.

I use Yahoo and Hotmail on Aquamail and both work fine. I presume Yahoo is POP3.

I did try blue mail and did not like it, also did not like the Gmail app with the other emails for some reason. Too used to the Mail app on my Moto g.

When I was exploring the G5 thought Gmail structure seemed more familiar than I recalled hence my confusion over the older phone app. So do you use Gmail app for all types of mail?

Yes, the one thing I liked about the old phone app was that I could keep separate the three email accounts I had set up but all would be active for receiving emails and their alerts.

Yes, just got a new phone and have started using the app for both my own gmail account and the Exchange account at work. As well as selecting accounts by long-press from the icon, and switching between accounts within the app (2 taps), it also remembers the last account you used, which will be the inbox you see when you launch the app with a single tap.
 
Update

Well, I thought I would give AquaMail a spin ~ got my head round it AOK but then discovered........................found out I had missed reading that......................in the free version you cannot have more than 2 accounts ~ doh! I have been using 3 accounts.

So now have to think what I wish to do:-

1) buy the Pro version

2) use the Gmail app as well and use it for one of the accounts

3) try/use another app???

Edit - corrected the number of accounts mentioned, I had them transposed doh!!!

I only have two so is okay for me, might be worth trying it out to see if you like it before buying the pro version.

Well FWIW I gave BlueMail a test and its process for creating the accounts was more like the old Moto G app compared to AquaMail in that in the latter I had to try a couple of unfamiliar looking settings before I got it to create the accounts. Yes, Bluemail is novel in some ways and awaiting mails to come through to confirm I have the settings sorted AOK. NB Letting BlueMail create the accounts automatically uses IMAP................so just re-did it using manual and POP3 and then in no more than 5mins I had setup the other two accounts. In AquaMail because of the lack of familiarity setting the first one took me 10mins :(

So, I have uninstalled AquaMail and will see how I get on with BlueMail.

Oh, on a side note re Chrome bookmarks
I realised that not all my bookmarks were there, then it dawned on me that perhaps I had not bookmarked all the tabs I had open on the old phone. Well as still able to use the WiFi I opened Chrome and bookmarked all the missing ones >>>>> and there they were on the new phone :)

Oh, a mystery of the chicken &egg variety :lol:

Looking at the screenshots of TypeApp in the the play store I thought they look familiar......identical(?) to BlueMail. The similarities don't stop there, their website sites are very much alike (functions etc of the app) including the "Android tips" section.

So I wonder which one is the clone of the other........and am I the only person to have noticed this because during searches I do not recall seeing any mention of such similarity (cloning?)

Not noticed that before. I think I tried Blue Mail before actually. In fact, thinking about it, I think Blue Mail became Type Email but they kept the original version and split them. Strange either way.
