There is cheaper but they are mostly US based and require a card payment, well I'm not throwing my credit card across the pond to some slightly shadey phone unlock site for $3....ho nooooo...whatever anybody else says...

Anybody know of a screen/button touch on/off app. for the desire?

Meaning...instead of having to use the power button to activate the phone after the timeout period.

Thats just a screen lock and the phone already has one

What i'm wanting is an app. that can reboot the screen once the timeout has enabled.

Yup, mine is unlocked, rooted & flashed with a ROM from Modaco , it took me 10 mimutes

Orange San Fran here too. Easy as pie to unlock and root. I was even comparing it to a iPhone4 last night and the only thing I seem to miss is the better camera. That said for the £300 I saved I could buy a point and shoot of adequate quality
