My vibrate on my phone stopped working a while back. After reading various forums on googling it, I gathered that the motor had gone and just left it at that, thinking that I didn't really want to go through the hassle of changing my phone etc.

Then on Sunday, my phone suddenly started vibrating as a message came through. Up until last night it was working fine.

Now it's off again. So now I don't think it is the motor at all and now it's just annoying that it doesn't work. I use the alarm on the coach to wake me up when roughly near my stop so at the moment I have no alarm.

I've not made any changes to settings and I've not installed any new apps

Any ideas?

If you haven't changed any software or settings then it seems likely it is a mechanical or electrical issue with the motor or the connections to it, e.g the motor sticking and coming unstuck if it knocked or a broken track on the PCB which makes intermittent connection if say the phone is bent or twisted in a certain way.

Possibly, I phoned EE but when I upgraded my phone, they didn't continue the insurance so I'm stuck with it until February

What version of android are you on?

Lollipop 5.0.1

Check your sound preferences and make sure they are exactly like the attached image.

On lollipop you have the ability to setup sound preferences and it is very easy to set them without knowing. Worth a shot at least.

If I knew how to get to Sound Preferences, I would have a look. I'm on a Samsung S4. But having not changed any preferences or anything, I'm not too sure why they would start working again and then not

Keep pressing your sound down button until something similar to the above image appears on your screen.

I repair a good few phones, the motor is connected by two TINY pins, chances are some grime as accumulate in the pins or the motor has moved for some reason, the alignment is critical for the pins to meet the PCB.

Motor and counter weight looks like this, they are easy to work on unlike many phones.

Its TINY.

Nope. Didn't work. I pressed about 10 times. Also held it down for about 10 seconds

That sounds like a possibility. Any idea how I can fix it?

Have a look on YouTube for strip down videos, see how you feel about doing it, as I keep saying the motors are tiny, you'd be amazed how much crud builds up inside even the best looked after phones, one grain of sand would stop it starting up, once spinning it would function only to next time fail to start again..

Probably will give it a miss haha but thanks anyway

Ha, other than breakages it's typical that the machnical parts of phones fail, motors, speakers, sockets etc.. one of the things that amazes me with modern DSLRs is the complexity of the machnical parts, well that and how tiny it all gets now a days and the task said items have to perform zillions of times.

Knowing these things it not surprise me if in a weeks time it came to life, but then on the other hand it may never happen lol

Well it came back to life Sunday, maybe it will happen again :)

It's just not having the alarm vibrate function that's annoying
