Android Market to Google Play

My wife has a Sony X10 Mini Pro which has the Android 2.1 software. It currently shows the Android Market application which looks like it does not really work anymore. Anyone know how I can upgrade to Google Play? It states that the phone is compatible with Google Play.

It should just upgrade when you run the market app, every device I have has done it automatically.

My phone updated automatically but for some reason this phone didn't. Any idea how to update it manually?

Try this - go into Settings and Apps (possibly Application Management), find the market app, clear data and clear cache. Reboot the device and then try opening the market app again when online.
