Android kitkat

Google tend to roll out their updates over an extended period. The Nexus 4 being nominally the Google phone was one of the first to get the update after Nexus 5 the latest Google phone. My Asus Nexus 7 tablet did not get the update until 5 days after my Nexus 4. Hang in there it will probably happen soon!

Your phone will tell you if there is a new update available. You can check by going to the 'about device' bit in the settings menu. My nexus 7 has updated and I can't honestly say I can see much difference in real world use tbh.

A web search suggests that the Kit Kat update for Samsung devices is scheduled for January 2014.

Samsung have to add their layer of code on top of Android - it's not a pure Android experience.
And it takes them time...
In my experience, Samsung do roll out updates to some of their older devices - which is better than most.
As said - hang in there :)

I'm currently waiting for the 4.4.1 update to arrive on my Nexus 7.

Yep you have to wait for the mobile device to roll out their version. If you bought your phone locked by a provider you will have to wait even longer.

KK 4.4 has been out for a few weeks but KK 4.4.1 was only announced and started deploying on Thursday.

Other than being on the latest and greatest, I haven't noticed much difference between 4.3 and 4.4... (Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 2012 here)

Quite like the aesthetic changes, and OK Google stuff, but nothing special

The UI changes are minor, new dialler, sms replaced with hangouts. Not much else i can see. Personally I'm rather underwhelmed...

How can texts be replaced with hangouts ?

The hangout app now has the ability to manage text messages. There is an option in the sms app and hangout app to select which app you want to use to manage text messages. I guess im turning into an old man with my preference for the simplicity of the sms app.

One other ui feature that i dislike is the swipe to action function, as in the option to archive messages in gmail. There are many apps that allow you to swipe between screens, and swiping across items to action them seems like a strange ui complication..

KitKat breaks Flash. Wish I'd known that before it got dumped on my Nexus :(

Think I'll hold off updating the Galaxy until somebody figures out a way round this.

Likewise. Not a massive lot of difference really.

4.4 combined with the Google Experience launcher has completely changed my view of Android going from my Nexus 4 to Nexus 5. It looks and feels so much better and slicker to use. Can't explain it, but it's gooooooood!
