Hi

Anyone able to track their phone or tablet via Android Device Manager?

I have installed tried searching for my S3 and Nexus 7 but it is unable to locate them.

Have tried the untick Android Device Manager, and clear Google Play service, check tick Android Device Manager and restart but no joy.

Thanks

Kev

Working fine for me picking up the location of my S2, Note 2 and Nook HD.

Thanks, have just checked again and still showing as unavailable.

Do you have to have the GPS, WIFI or Mobile Internet on for it to work?

I located my devices with GPS off and just the data connection enabled.

Stuart,

Thank you, I have tried with both GPS and Data and still no joy on the S3. I have Zoner Antivirus on it, could this be the reason?

I wouldn't have thought antivirus programs would affect it to be honest.

If you go into your device settings and chose location access do you have location access on or off? If off try it with wifi and data enabled.

Location access is ticked.

Try this process

Open Google Settings from your device's apps menu.
Touch Android Device Manager.
Uncheck Allow remote factory reset.
Go to your device's main Settings menu, then touch Apps > All < Google Play services.
Touch Clear Data. Note that this action doesn't remove personal data.
Go back to Google Settings and select Allow remote factory reset.
Restart your device.
you might have to unselect remote factory reset to clear data in Google play services

Looking on the net last night a lot of people were complaining about this.

I would have thought it should work fine on the nexus 7 as it is running the last version of Android.

Thank you for your help, will keep trying.

A friends nexus 7 (2 of them) got stolen from his car so want to see if we can track them. I get the same issue on his account.

Done all of this twice apart from the last bit "un select remote control factory reset..."] will give this a go.

Thanks

Doesn't work for me either :(

Sorry wasn't trying to suggest anything special. Just tried to show it working which would remove the possibility that the problem is at Googles end.
It's a strange one else though as it sounds like your settings are identical to mine and everyone else's.

Maybe it only works in Edinburgh ? :p

Never having tried it before I've just tried it on Wi-Fi and data connection and it finds my N4.

I've a variety of Android devices (N7 x 2, N4, Asus Transformer and a couple of old HTC's) and none of them show. Have tried every forum under the sun, every method including those mentioned above, to no avail. Doesn't matter what my wi-fi, mobile network or GPS states are.

And as for the Edinburgh theory, I'm in central Edinburgh and having no luck

Thanks. Looks like we might have to raise this with Google...

I can confirm it's working for my nexus 7 2013 here in the beautiful south east.

Thanks, hoping that it starts working. I do not want to add another app to do what this one does...

I had this with my nexus 4 and HTC work phone, after many days troubleshooting it was actually down to my account.

It appears that Google didn't bear in mind the Googlemail.com users, upgrading to gmail.com account and re-adding the gmail account to my devices has resolved.

Definitely worth a check!

Thanks. I do use a Googlemail . com.

Will look into this.

No worries, pretty certain that is your culprit! ;)

Works here - many thanks :)

Change my account to gmail, re did the following on the S3:

Open Google Settings from your device's apps menu.
Touch Android Device Manager.
Uncheck Allow remote factory reset.
Go to your device's main Settings menu, then touch Apps > All < Google Play services.
Touch Clear Data. Note that this action doesn't remove personal data.
Go back to Google Settings and select Allow remote factory reset.
Restart your device.

But still no joy, do I have to change the account on the play store to gmail as well?

Thank you

The main thing is to remove your Google account from the device, restart the phone, add your account using the gmail address and then access ADM using the gmail address. Unfortunately this will remove your apps temporarily when you remove the account but it had to be done.

There shouldn't be any need to change the other settings :)

Mine didn't locate my device straight away as it took about 30mins for Google to sort itself out. Although the ring function was working immediately which it didn't before, so that was a telling sign.

Thanks. Will give that a go.

I just removed my account and added the gmail one. No need to reboot, no loss of apps., although I did need to wait for 30 minutes for Google to sort everything out for location and ring worked immediately.

Thank you all for the help and input. All working now.
